It's been quite some time since Square Enix officially revealed its third-person survival action shooter Left Alive during Tokyo Game Show 2017, and following its availability in Japan, the game has now reached its worldwide release date for PC and PlayStation 4. In order to prepare potential players for what the title will have to offer, the video game publisher and developer has officially released Left Alive's launch trailer, which highlights the three protagonists, brief story beats, mech gameplay, and more.

In Left Alive, players will be able to take on the role of three different characters whose stories intertwine with one another, with the protagonists fighting for survival in a world that includes giant mechs called Wanzers that are capable of being piloted. While there is indeed mech gameplay on display, it appears as if a lot of the title will be played on foot, with the launch trailer including lots of moments depicting stealthy cover-based combat involving the main characters.

Left Alive was directed by Toshifumi Nabeshima, the director of multiple episodes of the Armored Core series from the Dark Souls developer From Software. The game also includes mech designs created by the likes of Takayuki Yanase, who had his hands in the creation of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

In addition to Nabeshima and Yanese's work on Left Alive, the game's characters were designed by Japanese artist Yoji Shinkawa. Many will likely know Shinkawa from his iconic work with Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series.

It will be interesting to see how Left Alive is received by Western audiences, especially considering how little fanfare there has been since the survival action shooter went live in Japan just several days ago. As it so happens, the game was heavily discounted after release in the region, and Square Enix even blocked the game from streaming services due to its rough launch weekend in Japan.

Left Alive is available now for PC and PlayStation 4.
