Left 4 Dead 2 Mod Kokiri Forest

While many people recognize The Legend Of Zelda as an adventure series, it can actually get pretty scary too. Anyone who played through Ocarina Of Time at a young age and experienced a ReDead for the first time while trying to learn "The Sun's Song" can attest to this. Still, that was just one part of the game, so calling the Zelda series a horror-based franchise would just be silly. But if you ever wanted to inject a bit more frantic scariness into a Zelda game -- like, for example, a horde of crazy zombies -- then your prayers may have been answered.

Some creative genius was able to make a mod for Left 4 Dead 2 that takes you through a campaign set in Kokiri Forest, the instantly recognizable starting area from Ocarina Of Time. The campaign takes you through the forest into the Lost Woods, and after you traverse the confusing maze, you'll find the Forest Temple. Once there, you'll have to hunt down the four Poes in order to take on the final boss, which will be a rather amusing surprise for Left 4 Dead fans.

The attention to detail for this mod is very impressive. Everything from Link's house, to the first shop, to that little circle of stones that that one Kokiri is trying to lift is included in here. The Lost Woods actually plays like it does in Zelda, except instead of teleporting to the start if you get lost, you just go back to the last room you were in. The Forest Temple includes the use of keys and block puzzles to give players the proper Zelda experience. There's even a secret or two the developer(s) managed to sneak in. The music does have a looping problem or two, but all in all, it's very well done.

Have a look for yourself at a few images of the campaign.

In addition, a play-through of the campaign was uploaded to YouTube for your viewing pleasure. Watch the awesomeness in action, though you should be warned that the gamers' commentary is present, so expect cursing and such.

Will you be giving this mod a download? Will this be enough to hold you over until the release of the 3DS remake?

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D will release on June 19, 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS.
