Announced last month, Left 4 Dead 2 will be getting a significant new update titled The Last Stand from a team of dedicated community developers. It marks the first piece of content coming to Valve's popular multiplayer zombie game in over 9 years, with the title's final DLC, Cold Stream, launching all the way back in 2011.

Luckily for Left 4 Dead fans, there's now more information on what will be included in the slice of fresh content as well, with one of the developers on the update, JAiZ, posting a new trailer to their YouTube channel. Clocking in at around 1:54, the footage shows off a number of the update's biggest features alongside what to expect from its new campaign.

Beginning by noting Left 4 Dead's continued support despite laying dormant for a number of years, the trailer reveals there will be over 20 new survival maps, a series of reworked and added animations, previously unused lines of dialogue for all the game's characters, and some brand new melee weapons.

The trailer even shows off the latter, with Ellis wielding a powerful, lumbering shovel and Nick spearing off some zombies heads with a pitchfork. It seems the game will add some overall fixes too, with the trailer promising that PVP has been enhanced and patched, something the game's rampant online community will no doubt be thankful for.

Throughout the trailer are also some glimpses of the titular Last Stand campaign, which appears to culminate with the team of players fighting waves of zombies while defending a derelict Lighthouse. It's a very fitting setting for a chaotic final chapter of a Left 4 Dead 2 campaign, with the original release offering similar scenarios while trapped in a circus, mansion, and shopping mall. Adding to the list of new additions in the comments, JAiZ reveals there will be a multitude of crucial bug fixes, reworked gun models, new achievements, fresh scavenge maps, improved UI, and more.

The community team will be adding all the new content on September 24, while those who have yet to buy the game will be treated to a free weekend after launch. With the title still having a huge community filled with dedicated fans, it's great to see some new content hitting the popular online mainstay. Hopefully, it makes the wait for Turtle Rock's new zombie-killing co-op experience, Back 4 Bloodmuch less agonizing, with the spiritual successor seemingly still a good ways off.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand Update will be available on September 24 for PC.
