The industry is currently going through something of a phase in which, instead of releasing unique games with compelling stories, publishers are churning out upscaled and graphically tweaked versions of already existing properties. While some video game remakes and remasters like Resident Evil 2 are considered good, there are others which painfully fail to hit the mark. The less said about the launch days of Grand Theft Auto: Definitive Edition, the better. Sometimes it's good to see improved versions of games that everyone loves, but there are times when fans' hopes can be dashed, as some Bloodborne players discovered.

Recently, some screenshots were doing the rounds which seemed to show a supposed PS5 remaster of FromSoftware's Bloodborne, which got some thinking that a re-release was due out. These images seemed to depict much crisper and markedly improved visuals from this fabled remaster. However, according to a report from DSO Gaming, the screenshots have been faked, with evidence pointing to the fact that they don't represent what they claim to be, and there are a couple of ways to tell.

The report goes on to say that, when looked at closely, the font used for the "Remastered" text seems to show the "E" and "D" letters smaller than the rest of the letters, suggesting that they are nothing more than a Photoshop job. On top of that, it's also been alleged that one of the screenshots is taken from an Unreal Engine 4 fan remake of Bloodborne from 2016. The conclusion, therefore, according to the report, is that the images are not from an elusive and yet-to-be-announced remaster of the 2015 game.

Of course, while there isn't a remastered version on the way as far as the community is concerned, fans are still tinkering with the original title to make something unique. Earlier this year, one fan created a "demake" of Bloodborne, which gives it a pixilated, PSX-style look to it, and went down a storm among fans. Currently, the original title is only available on the PS4, with no word about potential ports.

With FromSoftware's Elden Ring currently doing well in terms of sales, the studio is showing that it still hast the chops for making impactful and difficult action RPGs. Whether this will open up the doors for a possible new-gen release or PC version of Bloodborne remains to be seen, but maybe it will kick the developer into remastering the game in the interim.

Bloodborne is now available on PS4.
