League of Legends developer Riot Games has been branching out lately. From the Auto-Chess game Teamfight Tactics to a forthcoming, Riot-developed fighting game, the company has been busy making a splash beyond the MOBA genre. However, Riot has not forgotten its roots, as the developer has recently announced League of Legends: Wild Rift, which will bring the PC-exclusive League of Legends to mobile and console devices.
Announced during the 10th-anniversary stream for League of Legends, League of Legends: Wild Rift will be very similar to the PC version of the game but with some key differences. While the PC version of League of Legends requires a right-click to move and a left-click to attack, Will Rift will use a twin-stick control scheme. Furthermore, it is indicated that Wild Rift matches will last between 15 and 18 minutes. PC matches can last a lot longer, and it makes sense for Wild Rift to be a little faster paced due to it being on a mobile device.
A lot of questions about Wild Rift still remain, however. It's not yet known if the PC version will also get these changes, which would allow controller support and speed up matches, or if League of Legends: Wild Rift will be a separate title. If the latter, it's also possible that players will not be able to use their levels or earned League of Legends skins from the vanilla version in Wild Rift, which could upset long-time fans and divide the userbase.
At this time, everything is speculation, though. Wild Rift is set to release sometime in 2020, but other than the release year, Riot provided very little information on the title. There is still plenty for Riot to reveal about Wild Rift, including other changes and tweaks to the classic MOBA formula. Specific consoles for Wild Rift haven't even been announced yet either, and it may even be a title being developed for the PlayStation 5, which is releasing during the 2020 holidays.
Regardless, Riot Games making League of Legends accessible to more players can only be a good thing. The company will reveal more about Wild Rift in the coming months.
