It's a new year for League of Legends and 2021 is ramping up to be a big, if not the biggest, year yet for the MOBA. To kick off 2021, Riot Games released a lengthy video discussing all things League of Legends in the foreseeable future. It includes the League of Legends: Wild Rift launch, esports news, and a story-heavy cinematic. Within that League of Legends cinematic was another reveal for the game's next character, Viego: the Ruined King.

In the trailer, Viego reveals himself to Lucian and Senna through a cloud of his nefarious green fog. He manipulates Senna with his powers, forcing her to relinquish the soul of the Ruined King's lost wife. With that soul, Viego has dark plans for the entire world of Runeterra, and other champions connected to Viego in the trailer include Darius, Poppy, and Karma, though how or why may require another trailer or two.

The Ruined King is a major component of Riot's plans for League of Legends in 2021. He isn't just going to be a playable character in League of Legends, he will also be a major character in the upcoming Ruined King: A League of Legends Story spin-off game.

It's clear that Riot is planning a more connected story for 2021 in League of Legends than any year prior. How Riot will connect its different games, in-game events, and mixed media to tell this story should be exciting to discover. Needless to say, League of Legends is off to a great start, and fans can look forward to more.

League of Legends is available now on PC.
