League of Legends is not just the largest MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) ever, it’s arguably one of the biggest multiplayer games in general. League of Legends is a game that is expanding with a Netflix series currently airing and through collaborations with other games such as Fortnite. Jinx from League of Legends was recently added to Fortnite as well. Additionally Among Us will feature some cosmetics based on some of the characters in the Netflix League of Legends series.

Apart from great gameplay, one of the reasons League of Legends has faired as well as it has is because of the constant stream of updates the game receives. League of Legends feels different each year because of the changes to items, changes to Summoner’s Rift (the map in League of Legends), and the introduction of new champions such as Vex, that are regularly released.

Another change that Riot appears to be looking into in League of Legends is the addition of a seventh item slot. Currently, there are only six spaces for players to fill items with that they’d believe would help them in the game. These items can help the players in various ways and because of the new items and patches, knowing what each item does and getting the most out of item slots if vital for longer games. Riot accidentally uploaded an image featuring a seventh slot but removed it stating it has no plans to implement another item space.

After finishing a match, during the post-game, teams are displayed showing the champion, items, and scoreboard. As of now, there is empty space in between items and the scoreboard. Riot stated that it has been experimenting with the empty space which seemingly led to testing a seventh item.

Riot mentioned that it won’t fill that space up with a seventh item slot, as this will have greater implications than just filling up an empty space in the scoreboard. League of Legends goes through regular patches to make sure the game is fair and balanced. The addition of a seventh item slot would drastically change the way games are played leading to some crazy item builds and more difficulty in trying to balance everything out.

Despite Riot claiming it doesn’t plan to implement a seventh item slot, it’s always possible that this is something that eventually comes later on. Prior to season 4, trinkets didn’t exist and required players to use one of their 6th item spaces as a slot for vision items. Something similar can happen with another slot. Until then, Riot will continue polishing and growing League of Legends large enough that it could potentially compete in the Olympics.

League of Legends is available to play for free on PC.
