In heartbreaking news, Twitch streamer and former League of Legends professional player Maria "Remilia" Creveling has died. Creveling's passing was confirmed on social media by both her boyfriend and her best friend. Each mentioned that Creveling passed peacefully while sleeping on Friday, December 27. Creveling was just 24 years old.

Creveling is best known for her time playing in the League of Legends professional league, the LCS. She became the first woman to qualify for and play in the LCS with the team Misfits. Misfits would rebrand as Renegades for the 2016 season, with Creveling playing the team's support role. She was well known as a strong Thresh and Morgana player and grew a significant fanbase. Ultimately, Creveling would depart Renegades and the LCS citing anxiety and confidence issues.

The issues that led Creveling to depart from Renegades would ultimately spiral into the team's eventual ban from the LCS. An investigation into Creveling's allegations, which included harassment due to her being transgender, led to the team's ownership eventually being forced to sell the team's LCS slot. Riot Games cited poor conditions for players, safety issues, and unfulfilled contract obligations as the reason for the ban.

League of Legends would continue to be a part of Creveling's life after she departed the LCS. She'd go on to play for teams including Kaos Latin Gamers, FlyQuest, and others. Since August, Creveling hasn't been involved with a professional team and has instead focused on Twitch streaming. Between League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and other games, Creveling had accrued over 450 subscribers and 100+ average viewers over the past several months.

Creveling's best friend and roommate, Richard Lewis, posted a short eulogy on Twitter in remembrance of Creveling. "She would not have wanted any lengthy statements or grand eulogies. Despite having fans all over the world she was never one who craved the spotlight." Lewis adds, "Her absence will leave a void that can never be filled." Creveling's boyfriend also offered comment on Twitter, saying that his time with her was "the best of both our lives and although she deserved so much more, it was a privilege to know her for the short time I did."

Fans of Creveling are offering tribute to her, her achievements as the first woman and transgender LCS player, and her legacy. Dozens have visited her Twitch page to leave a final message to Creveling or to share their feelings with other fans. Many others are posting their thoughts on Twitter. Even Riot Games' official LCS Twitter account has posted a message of mourning for Creveling. She will be missed.
