Riot Games has released the official music video for League of Legends' 2022 World Championship in collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X. The lead-up to the popular MOBA's annual World Championships has traditionally been preceded by a stunning animated music video accompanied by big-name musical acts. Groups like Imagine Dragons and The Glitch Mob have previously lent their talents to Riot's annual World Championship hype videos. Now, the newest video set to welcome the 2022 championships features Lil Nas X for this year's "Worlds Anthem."
The 2022 edition of League of Legends' Worlds Anthem, "Star Walkin," was released on Thursday morning with popular rapper Lil Nas X performing the song. As with Riot's other annual music videos, the Worlds hype video features animated references to several players set to participate in this year's Worlds including Fnatic's Humanoid and legendary T1 mid-laner Faker. The video also showcases the logos of each of the major regional leagues represented in this year's championships splashed onto the pavement of the animated city.
The music video features multiple mecha League of Legends champions representing some of the featured players' most iconic characters roaming the city. A massive mecha based on Thresh roams the city to represent Chinese team EDward Gaming's support player Meiko while an Azir mech highlights Gen.G's storied mid-laner Chovy. The video highlighting this year's top players comes just a week before the World Championships Play-In round is set to commence on September 29th.
With only a week left until the 2022 World Championships, Riot has already given plenty of information for fans about this year's in-person plans for the World Championships. Returning to the trend of featuring each Worlds in different regions, 2022's Worlds will return to North America for the first time since 2016. Different rounds of the League of Legends World Championships will be held in Mexico City, New York City, and Atlanta with the Finals to take place in San Francisco. Players should also expect plenty of in-game missions for League of Legends providing bonus rewards.
While the League of Legends World Championship is an exciting time for esports, fans should not expect to see one of the game's most recent champions at Worlds. The newly reworked Udyr will be absent from League of Legends' 2022 Worlds with Riot confirming the character would be disabled during Worlds. The character's long-awaited update was released late last month alongside Patch 12.16 with Udyr receiving a complete visual and character overhaul. While Udyr's new look will be missing this year's Worlds, the championship will be an opportunity for League's top players to show their skills.
