Léa Seydoux has joined the ever-growing cast of Denis Villeneuve's highly-anticipated Dune: Part Two. The French actress, who is arguably best known for her role in Daniel Craig's James Bond films, will be playing Lady Margot in the Dune sequel.

Dune: Part Two was officially greenlit by Warner Bros. last fall, shortly after the first installment was released in theaters to critical praise and box office success. Villeneuve had signed on to direct Dune on the condition that he be allowed to split Frank Herbert's novel into two films due to the massive scope of the author's story, but the sequel's fate depended on how the first installment performed.

Now, Dune: Part Two is slated to begin production this fall, and Deadline's report on Seydoux joining the project is just the latest casting news for the sequel. Per the outlet, Seydoux is currently in the midst of negotiations to join an all-star cast that currently includes returning Dune stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Josh Brolin. Seydoux joins a roster of newcomers to Villeneuve's Dune universe that includes Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Austin Butler.

Madeleine No Time to Die James Bond

As fans of Herbert's novel know, Lady Margot is a long-standing servant of the Sisterhood. She plays a key role early in the story by warning Lady Jessica - the mother of lead character Paul Atreides - of the betrayal that awaits House Atreides when they arrive on Arrakis to take over stewardship of the planet from House Harkonnen. While this sequence was not included in Villeneuve's first Dune film, Lady Margot plays an important role in the second half of the story as a key ally in Paul Atreides' war against House Harkonnen.

While Seydoux, as mentioned, is arguably best known for portraying Dr. Madeleine Swann in the James Bond films Spectre and No Time to Die, she's also had roles in notable projects such as France, Deception, and Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch. Recently, Seydoux caught the attention of audiences for her performance in David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future (2022).

Needless to say, Seydoux has proven she has the acting chops to stand out even among the expansive Dune sequel cast. Fans of her work are likely eager to see what she brings to the vital role of Lady Margot.

Dune: Part Two is scheduled to release in theaters on October 20, 2023.
