Launching back in 2019, Layers of Fear 2 moved its acclaimed predecessor's atmospheric horror to a new setting, offering a terrifying narrative-focused adventure aboard an abandoned ship. Today, it was announced that the sequel will be making the jump to a new platform, with Bloober Team revealing it's porting the game to the Nintendo Switch.

The handheld version was made official via a new trailer, showing off Layers of Fear 2's creepy setting as well as some of the haunting monsters players will have to face while navigating the boat's eerie hallways. The trailer itself shows off what makes Layers of Fear 2 such a different experience from its predecessor, including its classical Hollywood theme and surreal, mind-bending scares. From sinister narration and hallways of distorted mannequins to a scene with two child-like figures pulled straight from The Shiningit's an experience that's sure to offer fans of the horror genre plenty of fun scares and surprises.

For those who didn't play the game back at release, the main story centers on a Hollywood actor who is cast as the lead in a new film by a mysterious director. The movie will be shot aboard an ocean liner, although it's immediately clear that not everything is as it seems. The adventure that follows is filled with psychological scares and haunting encounters, as the player uncovers the mystery behind the game's creepy setting and the horrifying dangers that lurk within it.

Along the way, they'll be forced to escape monsters, navigate creepy environments, and make moral choices, the likes of which will alter the outcome of the story. It garnered some great reviews back at release, with Game Rant stating that the sequel was "a unique horror game that can be easily recommended for lovers of the genre."

The game's developers have gone on to release two more titles since the debut of Layers of Fear 2, including 2019's Blair Witch adaptation and this year's The MediumThe latter was a huge success for the horror developer, seeing it test out the limits of the Xbox Series X's powerful SSD by rendering two worlds at the same time. Players could use the game's main protagonist's powers to venture between the worlds of the living and the dead, using the ability to solve puzzles and escape hazards. Bloober Team is allegedly already onto its next big project, although it hasn't revealed what that will be just yet.

Layers of Fear 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch port launching on May 20.
