Since the release of The Last of Us Part 1, fans have been able to learn and discover much more about Joel and Ellie through new context clues, better highlights, and so on, with the latest opening up a can of worms for fans. Some fans have noticed a wedding photo in Joel's office, and while it's easy enough to glance over, it poses a huge question: who are they?

One example of these new details includes The Last of Us Part 1 confirming Joel's age, thanks to the high-def textures of his passport, while some new Easter eggs are simply fun nods. All of this isn't as mysterious as the wedding photo though.

Based on the man's frosted tips and the general appearance of the photo, The Last of Us fans seem mostly certain of a few things: the photo seems to have come from the 80s/90s, while the man is definitely neither Joel nor Tommy. Many fans have tried to figure out who they could be, with some even insisting that Joel had a frosted-tips blonde phase, but it's hard to say for sure. Fans know Joel was born in the early 80s, so it could be that he was married in the late 90s. He and his wife had Sarah early after all, so it would seemingly line up. Some think it's Joel's parents, but of course, this would mean that the photo comes from before the 90s. A hilarious, albeit unlikely answer, is that this is the stock photo that came in the photo frame.

Another answer is that it could have been a friend of Joel's, or some believe it could have been an Easter egg for a Last of Us Part 1 developer. Devs sometimes "sneak" these in, and it would be a nice commemoration of a colleague and/or a marriage. At this point, it's uncertain if this Easter egg truly does mean anything or if it's just another random addition to the game.

For example, The Last of Us Part 1 added a new Mortal Kombat 2 Easter egg in Left Behind, and while it's a cool nod to the beloved series, it is just a random addition to the game. Who these married folks are and if they are important remains a big question, but it's unlikely fans will know for sure anytime soon.

The Last of Us Part 1 is currently available for PS5 and is in development for PC.
