In 2013, The Last of Us stunned fans with its brilliant graphics, compelling story-telling, and engaging gameplay. Since then, fans of the game have waited eagerly for The Last of Us Part IIthe sequel which will tell Ellie's story five years after the events of the first game. Given the reputation that Naughty Dog has in making great games, it is no wonder that players feel pretty safe pre-ordering this one despite the misgivings many have about pre-orders. But as usual, there are a host of options regarding different editions of the game, pre-order bonuses from different retailers, and more that can confuse potential buyers as to what is the best option for them.

The Last of Us follows the story of Joel and Ellie in a post-apocalyptic world full of zombie-like infected humans. Throughout the game, players grow to know and care about the pair, and both make questionable decisions. The Last of Us 2 is destined to do great, as from what has been shown the game will build on its predecessor's already successful mechanics, and new technological advancements mean that the already great graphics and motion capture of the first game can only get better. This time, rather than playing Joel almost exclusively, players will play a now full-grown Ellie on a quest for revenge.

The Last of Us Part II Pre Order Bonuses

Thankfully, pre-ordering The Last of Us 2 is relatively easy, as it makes no difference where players pre-order the game from, as the rewards are the same regardless. The Last of Us Part II Special Edition ($79.99)

The Last of Us Part 2 Special Edition details

Aside from ordering the Standard Edition ($59.99), which predictably comes with nothing but the game itself, the cheapest option potential buyers have would be to purchase the Special Edition of The Last of Us Part II. This comes with the base game and is accompanied by a 48 page mini art book, a steelbook, six PSN avatars, and a dynamic theme. None of this is game changing, but the art book in particular is a nice touch.

The Last of Us Part II Ellie Edition ($229.99)

The Last of Us Part 2 Ellie Edition

By far, the most impressive (and expensive) option players have is the Ellie Edition, which is as big as The Last of Us 2 itself. The massive price tag of $229.99 is justified by the many awesome things that come with it. This package comes with the 48 page mini art book, steelbook case, avatar set, dynamic theme, digital soundtrack, digital artbook, and access to the documentary about the making of the game.

Like the Collector's Edition, the Ellie Edition also has the additional physical incentives like the six enamel pins, five stickers, lithograph art print and thank you letter, Ellie's Bracelet, and the 12 inch statue of Ellie, but also contains a patch with the logo of The Last of Us 2 and a backpack modeled after Ellie's backpack. There is also a 7" vinyl record featuring music from the game's original soundtrack, making this purchase the ultimate for any super fan of the game. Unfortunately, it sold out rather quickly, so gaining access to it now may be difficult.

  • 48 page mini art book
  • Premium packaging
  • Steelbook game case
  • Avatar set
  • Dynamic Theme
  • Digital soundtrack
  • Digital artbook
  • Making of the game documentary access

So there are details of every available version for The Last of Us Part II as well as what fans can expect from pre-order bonuses. Naughty Dog certainly pulled out all the stops, giving fans many options with great incentives to choose from when it comes to these various editions. Although the delay of the release to May 29, 2020 is unfortunate, it means that fans have plenty of time to get their pre-orders in (and save up money should they decide to go for one of the more expensive options). At any rate, between things like the backpack, bracelet, vinyl, artbook, and documentary, there are plenty of reasons to dive in.

The Last of Us 2 is expected to release on May 29, 2020, for PS4.
