It's been over a year since The Last of Us 2 released and players are still discovering new details to this day. Very recently, one player noticed a rather gruesome detail related to Last of Us 2's combat that further highlights how impressive the visuals are. Another has managed to figure out a way to achieve something that Naughty Dog clearly didn't intend for anyone to actually pull off: kill Tommy.

As anyone that's completed The Last of Us Part 2 knows, Tommy is one of the characters that actually manages to survive the events of the game. YouTuber Speclizer, however, in a video titled Tiny Mistakes in The Last of Us Part 2, highlights how players can kill Tommy during a certain section of the game. Although it's not necessarily easy.

While playing as Abby, the game's second protagonist besides Ellie, there is a section where Tommy attempts to kill her from afar with a sniper rifle. Normally, Abby must avoid the sniper shots and carefully approach Tommy, only for him to pull down a shutter and escape, forcing Abby to pursue him by other means.

In the video, Speclizer shows that it's possible to reach Tommy before he closes the shutter, but it requires the player to be fast and willing to take risks. The biggest risk is that Abby only ducks for cover at very specific points to avoid Tommy's sniper shots and for most of it, she is running right for him. Clearly Naughty Dog didn't anticipate or expect The Last of Us 2 players to pull this off, because Abby is able to slide under the shutter before it's brought down. Now stuck in a room with Tommy, Abby is perfectly able to attack her target and kill him.

Since this isn't meant to happen, this doesn't mean players can change the flow of the story or anything. The video doesn't spend too long on the immediate aftermath of Tommy's death, but it's safe to assume that the game becomes glitched and the player is unable to continue, requiring them to reload a previous save. It should also be mentioned that the purpose of the video isn't meant to criticize the game's quality, but was simply born out of curiosity. A pinned comment from Speclizer even reads that they had trouble finding any mistakes because of how well put together the game is.

While The Last of Us Part 2 is not without their detractors, it has received just as much praise from players and even members of the games industry. The director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, in particular, praised its handling of LGBTQ+ characters.

The Last of Us Part 2 is available on PlayStation 4.
