The Last of Us 2 is a lot of things, as it has managed to harshly divide its fan base in more ways than one, but despite this many still hold a special place in their hearts for Ellie. This is made clear by this pixel art of Ellie created by _einzbern on Twitter.

As the main protagonist of both The Last of Us and The Last of Us 2, it's no wonder that Ellie gets as much attention as she does. Though she played a supporting role for the most part in the original game, the sequel sees her step forward and take the lead.

The Last of Us 2 lets players see a side of Ellie which wasn't shown in the first game. Though it hinted at her ability to survive and showed clearly that she would do whatever it takes in order to do just that, it wasn't until the sequel that fans saw that she could be just as ruthless in her pursuit of revenge.

The art above shows Ellie standing in the rain with her trusty, unbreakable switchblade drawn and at the ready. Judging by the blood on her clothes and the expression on her face, it's a safe bet to assume that she is in combat with someone. The level of detail here is astonishing when considering that this is pixel art, and it is as if Ellie's emotions jump out of the animation. The different shades of colors in the background give it a blurry effect, replicating the depth of field masterfully, and even small details like her hair or the arrows in her backpack are noticeable.

The user's comment about how her feelings about the game keep changing is likely in response to the controversy surrounding it. Between The Last of Us 2's trailers, massive story leaks, and a successful but divisive release, there is no shortage of controversy for this game. She does say that regardless of how she feels about it, it certainly left an impression, which is something which most can agree with. The Last of Us 2 will leave players thinking about it for weeks after they play it, whether or not those thoughts are positive or negative seem to depend on the player.

This is just one example of the amazing art which The Last of Us 2 and video games as a whole can inspire among its fans.

The Last of Us 2 is available now exclusively for PS4.
