Even though it leaked ahead of time, the reveal of The Last of Us PS5 remake was still one of the biggest announcements at Summer Game Fest. The Last of Us PS5 remake is a rebuilt version of the original Last of Us game, outfitted with new controls, improved enemy AI, 60 frames per second, and other upgrades that allows it to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5's added horsepower. To really put into perspective how vast of an upgrade The Last of Us PS5 remake is, side-by-side comparisons were shown after its reveal.

Shortly after debuting The Last of Us PS5 remake trailer, images were shown comparing the remake's graphics to that of the 2014 Last of Us Remastered. The Last of Us Remastered brought the original game to PlayStation 4 with upgrades of its own, but now The Last of Us remake on PS5, officially titled The Last of Us Part 1, is taking things to the next level.

For the comparison photos, Naughty Dog used scenes of Ellie and Joel, the protagonists of the original Last of Us game. The improvements are obvious right away, with the new versions of Ellie and Joel far more detailed and realistic-looking than their 2014 counterparts. These visual improvements seem to extend to all facets of The Last of Us on PS5, so it should be exciting for fans to get their hands on the game later this year.

The Last of Us PS5 remake release date is slated for September 2. However, it was also announced that the game is in development for PC as well. The PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 did not get a release date announcement just yet, but we do know that it will be launching at some point after the PS5 version. Based on how Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection PC version has been handled, it's likely that PC gamers will have to wait quite a few months to get their hands on the game, though nothing specific has been announced at the time of this writing.

Besides giving Last of Us fans their first look at the PS5 remake, some other Last of Us-centric details were announced at Summer Game Fest. Notably, it was confirmed that a standalone Last of Us multiplayer game set in San Francisco is going to launch at some point next year, so fans of the franchise have to look forward to.

Not only that, but it was also confirmed that Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who play Ellie and Joel in the games, will have parts on the upcoming Last of Us TV series on HBO. More on the TV show, including its premiere date, should come in the relatively near future.

The Last of Us Part 1 launches September 2 for PS5, with a PC version also in development.
