With all its death and brooding, it's quite clear that The Last of Us Part II is a serious game. It checks a lot of boxes that can relate to current social issues. Even if the world is filled with fungus people, some of the content still hits close to home.

It can be stressful to play through on a pure story based emotional level on top of actually being freaked out during actual gameplay. That’s where the memes come in. As serious as this game can get there are certainly things to make light of that don’t make sense. It’s always good to laugh. Also, there will be spoilers so be prepared for that.

10 Joel Rolled

First of all, who isn’t laughing at the idea of Joel playing Rick Astley’s classic, "Never Gonna Give You Up?” This is an old meme but a good one if played right. Anyway, the part that doesn’t make sense is that music selection is so foreign in this world.

That is to say only a select few notable songs are ever mentioned or even played between both games. The easy answer lies within licensing issues.

9 Make It Bun Dem

One of the most memorable missions in Far Cry 3 had players burn down a field full of weed. Not only is this fun to do, because flamethrowers are just fun to use in video games, but getting to hear “Make It Bun Dem” by Damian Marley and Skrillex was like icing on the cake. That was a meme unto itself.

The point is that this should have happened again within The Last of Us Part II. Also, how were they growing weed in the basement, anyways?

8 Grabbin' Pills

The above meme is actually a quote taken from a Saturday Night Live sketch “The Tizzle Wizzle Show,” wherein James Franco goes on what appears to be a children’s show. It then turns into a drug induced murder party. It’s great, but that’s besides the point.

The real issue here is The Last of Us’ fascination with taking pills to boost stats. What are these drugs anyway and how are they literally all over the U.S.?

7 'Tis But A Flesh Wound

This should make anyone laugh. Basically, if either Ellie or Abby gets grievously shot or badly bruised, they heal themselves by always wrapping up their right arms. Is that where predators naturally shoot? Also, how is this specific spot their magical healing point?

And, if not, then it is hard to imagine mending up the arm will heal the whole body. However, this is a world filled with seemingly magical pills and fungus people so who knows.

6 Army Of One

To be fair, this is a problem that plagues every video game but it's very apparent in The Last of Us Part II. How can the player character stop entire battalions of monsters, or this case, crazed survivors? It’s even more unrealistic with how easy the opponents go down and how Ellie acts like she is ever in danger.

She may as well be wearing a shirt that says “indestructible” on it. That didn’t save Joel, though, but that’s probably because he must have passed the power on.

5 Fool Me Once...

It was unrealistic when Abby let Tommy and Ellie go the first time. It was just plain dumb to think they wouldn’t go out looking revenge. But okay, Abby was only after Joel so that’s one thing. But then, in the theater, she lets her go again, but this was more because of Lev.

Even though it was great to see Abby listen to Lev, she should have at least finished the job. In the end, it didn’t really matter anyway since Ellie gave up her murderous intentions and bloodlust, which is never really explained. That’s a whole other thing.

4 Abby REALLY Loves Her Dad

This might be a weird point to bring up, but here goes: When Abby and Owen almost kiss in the aquarium in her flashback, she pulls back because she is thinking of her dad. She wants revenge and can’t kiss Owen until she gets it? Is she in that kind of love with her dad? Is that supposed to be an underlining message of her story?

Maybe this meme’s joke is too creepy even for The Last of Us

3 Attack Of The Clone Guns

It really is a convenient thing that all the guns Ellie comes across are the same as hers. This makes grabbing ammo a cinch. However, with Abby, she finds different kinds of ammo that still fit her specific needs. It’s all just too convenient.

On top of that, why don’t they take some extra ammo and/or the guns of their fallen enemies? Why just stop at at a certain amount? That seems like a post-apocalypse survival tip one should learn ASAP.

2 The Indestructible Mission To The Moon

Ellie’s first flashback with Joel at the museum is a great. It brings back what was so good about playing with those two in the original The Last of Us. The memory is even sweeter when Joel gives her a cassette tape of a shuttle launch, allowing her to momentarily fly out of the dying world.

Now, it’s not as if there wouldn’t be a recording of that somewhere in the world at some point, but could it really have survived what, at this point, might be a hundred years from the '60s? Not only did decades pass, but so did an apocalypse. Where did he go to get that in that condition?

1 Who Did It Better?

Did anybody else get flashbacks of Death Stranding from the climactic beach fight in this game? How could two PlayStation exclusives both end in a similar manner?

This is a weird coincidence, to say the least, especially considering the fact that Troy Baker was the actor who played Higgs, who is the main antagonist of Hideo Kojima's surrealist game. As pretty much everyone knows, he also plays Joel in The Last of Us. Maybe he leaked some data to both parties?
