HBO released the first official footage from its upcoming original series, The Last Of Us, which will star Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the post-apocalyptic video game adaptation adventure. The new footage was revealed ahead of the HBO original series House of the Dragon premiere and showcased Pascal and Ramsey's notable characters, Joel and Ellie.

The Last Of Us series from HBO is an adaptation of the popular Playstation video game of the same name. The action-adventure game was released in 2013 and centered around a smuggler named Joel tasked with taking a young teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States, ravaged with dangers in various forms. The notable sequel The Last Of Us Part II was released in 2020 and took home numerous awards at the 2020 Game Awards, including Game of the Year.

The footage was a small sample in a larger sizzle reel released by HBO to promote the premiere of House of the Dragon and other upcoming series hitting the network soon. The footage showcased Joel and Ellie slowly navigating a snowy bridge before maneuvering through scenes highlighting the iconic character's survival. In addition, HBO gave audiences their first look at the dangerous fungus plaguing the setting, along with other elements many familiar with the game will recognize.

"Everybody I've cared for has either died or left me," expressed Ellie cruelly within the footage. "You have no idea what loss is," responds Joel, highlighting the lovingly embattled tension between the two characters. HBO also gave audiences their first look at A League of Their Own star Nick Offerman as Bill, a paranoid and quirky character from the popular Playstation video game that forms an uneasy alliance with Joel and Ellie.

The first official footage from The Last Of Us was a pleasant surprise at the end of the sizzle reel, but HBO also unveiled other exciting projects bound to excite audiences. New looks at the upcoming seasons of various HBO originals surfaced, along with the announcement of new seasons for Succession, Winning Time, Perry Mason, and other notable series. In addition, a brief look at the upcoming HBO original limited series Love & Death was also revealed, which will star Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen.

An official release date has yet to surface for the upcoming original series, but audiences can expect to dive into The Last Of Us sometime next year. Additional footage will undoubtedly emerge as the cloaked release date inches closer, hopefully revealing more about the anticipated series. It'll be interesting to see how true the narrative stays to the source material and if HBO can capture the magic of the award-winning video game in live-action form.

The Last Of Us will premiere next year on HBO.
