There's no doubt that The Last of Us: Part 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games in recent memory. Even so, fans of the survival-horror franchise still don't have a clear idea of exactly when the PlayStation 4 exclusive will be making its way to the Sony console. Just recently, though, the game's composer, Gustavo Santaolalla teased the title's release date, giving players hope that they will see it launch this year.

During one of Santaolalla's recent concerts, the Argentinian musician and composer addressed the crowd to talk about the songs that he and his band would be playing during the gig, stating that some pieces from the first game were at the performance as well as a little bit from The Last of Us: Part 2. Although he didn't provide an exact release date as to when fans should expect to get their hands on the sequel, after Santaolalla mentioned TLOU2, he said that it should be "coming very soon".

With Santaolalla stating that The Last of Us: Part 2 is going to be out "soon", it seems all but confirmed that the game will be locked in for a 2019 launch. Nevertheless, with Naughty Dog having yet to provide a release window, even the year of its availability is still up in the air.

Not too long ago, though, details shared by the former IGN editor and games journalist Alanah Pearce inferred that a release date for 2019 had been set. Of course, even if the information was accurate at the time, there's always the chance for The Last of Us: Part 2–or any game, for that matter–to have its launch pushed back.

All things considered, it still looks like The Last of Us: Part 2 fans will be waiting a mite longer until even getting the tiniest scrap of official knowledge in regards to the game's release date. Until then, fans can at least pore over the title's gameplay footage from E3 2018 to prepare themselves for what's to come.

The Last of Us: Part 2 is currently in development for PlayStation 4.
