The Game Awards is one of the biggest award ceremonies that recognizes the leading video game titles for the past year. The event will take place on December 6 in the Microsoft Theatre and will be live-streamed online. Now, developer Naughty Dog recently revealed that fans should not expect any announcement regarding the studio’s highly-anticipated game, The Last of Us Part II.

Naughty Dog revealed in a Twitter post that while it is excited to see the incredible games that are going to be announced at the event, the studio “won’t have anything new to share from The Last of Us Part II.” Ever since the release of The Last of Us five years ago, fans of the game have been patiently waiting for the upcoming sequel, which still doesn’t have an official release date as of now.

Of course, given the massive hype surrounding the sequel’s release, several rumors have surfaced recently. A couple of months ago, PlayStation Music seemed to have suggested that The Last of Us Part II will be released next year, as every video of the game it uploaded was labeled with a 2019 release date. While the source is credible enough, fans should still take this lightly as no official confirmation was made by both Sony and Naughty Dog.

The development for The Last of Us Part II is approaching its second year as the sequel was first announced back in December 2016 at the PlayStation Experience event. Of course, a two-year development period, or even longer is not unheard of in the industry especially with massive franchises such as The Last of Us. Given the success of the first game, fans and critics of the series have high expectations of the sequel, which is why it is understandable (and even encouraged) for Naughty Dog to take its sweet time with The Last of Us Part II.

The Game Awards is only a few days away and it is interesting to see which title will take home the highly coveted Game of the Year award. What’s even more exciting is that the event promises to unveil 10 new game announcements, but sadly, it is now confirmed that The Last of Us Part II won’t be included in the roster.

The Last of Us Part II is currently in development for the PlayStation 4.
