The coronavirus pandemic has had a massive impact on the entertainment industry, and video games have been no exception. This includes Sony's major upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive game The Last of Us 2, which was originally scheduled to launch on May 29 after a number of delays. Now The Last of Us 2 has been delayed yet again due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Sony refraining from revealing a new release date.

The Last of Us 2 was originally set to launch this past February, but was delayed to its May 29 release date. The latest delay isn't due to development issues or the team needing more time to work on the game, however. As indicated by PlayStation, the decision is due to logistics, with the economic impact of the coronavirus convincing the company to push back the game's release date.

With Sony not announcing a new release date for The Last of Us 2, it's unclear if the game will still launch in 2020. However, unless the PS5 release date is pushed back, it's hard to see The Last of Us 2 not coming out this year. Perhaps The Last of Us 2 will release at some point later in the summer when the coronavirus pandemic is expected to subside at least partially, or maybe the game will launch in the fall, right before the PS5 itself. The possibility of The Last of Us 2 being a PS5 launch title and released on both PS4 and PS5 can't be ruled out either, but nothing to that effect has actually been announced.

In the meantime, The Last of Us 2 isn't the only game that Sony has delayed. In the same announcement, Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation VR exclusive Iron Man VR has also been delayed indefinitely. Like The Last of Us 2Iron Man VR was set to launch this coming May, and it too has no new release date.

Something that remains unclear is if Ghost of Tsushima will also be delayed. At the time of this writing, Ghost of Tsushima is scheduled to launch on June 26, but if the coronavirus pandemic is still a major issue by then, it seems likely it will be pushed back as well. Before Ghost of Tsushima fans get too worried, though, they should wait and see how things continue to pan out in the coming weeks and months.

The Last of Us 2 is in development for PS4.
