Every good cop has to start the same way, beating feet on the pavement. Protagonist Cole Phelps is no different in the beginning of his career in L.A. Noire.

Rockstar Games has released some new screens for the title depicting Phelps' early career in the Los Angeles Police Department.

Like every other division Phelps will work in L.A. Noire, Patrol will have its own desk where there will be several cases to solve through both investigation and interrogation skills. As a patrolman, though, Phelps will only serve as an assistant to detectives, who will do a lot of the heavy lifting in most cases. However, a patrolman with a sharp eye and good intellect can easily find himself donning a suit and fedora of his own to investigate crime.

The new screens show a mixture of the gameplay to be anticipated in Noire. Phelps will be riding with his partner at the time, Officer Ralph Dunn, who doesn't quite look as fun to hang out with as Phelps' Traffic Division partner, Stefan Bekowsky. Although, having a partner when you're being shot at is usually a positive - no matter who they are. Take a look at the new screens below.

From Patrol, Phelps will be making the rounds to several other desks including Homicide, Vice, and Traffic. No doubt that his career with the LAPD will be long and illustrious, should you be able to crack each case you are assigned. Don't worry if you're not a super sleuth like Columbo, though, Team Bondi has promised that L.A. Noire will be a game for everyone to play and not just those who were gifted with awesome powers of deduction.

L.A. Noire looks to be another engrossing and involved game coming from Rockstar. Combined with Team Bondi's efforts to recreate the city of 1940s-era Los Angeles as well as their MotionScan technology for facial features, Noire is going to be a detective story lover's dream and we can't wait.

L.A. Noire is releasing May 17, 2011 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
