Kristofer Hivju, best known for his role as Tormund Giantsbane on HBO's hit series Game of Thrones, has tested positive for COVID-19. Hivju was recently cast as Nivellen in Netflix's season 2 of The Witcher, which is now being delayed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Hivju posted the update on his Instagram on Monday. Hivju announced that he has tested positive, but that he and his family are taking the necessary precautions to stay safe. The photo showcased the film and tv star Hivju posing with his wife, Gry Molvær Hivju.

Greetings from Norway! Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Corona virus. My familiy and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes.

Hivju has minor symptoms, like that of a cold, but he fears for those who could be at greater risk. Providing hopeful sentiments, Hivju also begs that his fans to stay safe.

Kristofer Hivju had just joined the cast of season 2 The Witcher, which initially planned on continuing production during the global crisis. It was originally theorized that since production was filming in the UK, cautionary measures weren't yet in place. As of this last weekend plans for filming season 2 of The Witcher were still in place.

Luckily, the production team announced on Monday that they would be delaying production. Whether or not this was due to the Hivju's diagnosis is yet to be revealed, but it was smart to stop production. The spread of the virus has been running rampant throughout the world, and the best course of action appears to be self-isolation.

There have been cases of those diagnosed recovering, but the issue is how easily the virus can spread. Several large events within the gaming community have been canceled for this very reason, and officials are urging people to stay at home. Hivju also encouraged his fanbase to take care of each other, keep a safe distance, and stay healthy. Hivju's positive attitude helps ease the news and encourages fans that he'll be back on his feet again soon.

While several productions are shutting down across the world and there is no word yet on when productions will pick back up. The Witcher season 2 was scheduled to release sometime in the summer of 2021, but it is likely that this date will be pushed back as well.

The Witcher season 2 production is paused, but it will be premiering on Netflix at some point in the future.
