The Japanese gaming giant Konami remains quiet in the AAA department. Since the departure of legendary game director Hideo Kojima, Konami has largely shifted to developing free-to-play and mobile games. However, this seems to be changing in the light of several promising rumors that have surfaced this year.

Konami owns some of the most iconic and popular video game franchises of all time, including Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill. Fans have long been yearning for the next big entry in these franchises, and it seems that may finally come to pass. While Konami has yet to confirm the projects it is currently working on, there are a number of Konami-related rumors and leaks currently making rounds.

The Next Castlevania Game

Castlevania

Konami's dark fantasy adventure series helped create a new genre of games that is now more popular than ever. MercurySteam's incarnation of Castlevania in the God of War-styled Castlevania: Lord of Shadows breathed new life into the 35-years-old franchise. While Lord of Shadows 2 may not have met fans' expectations, fans have since been interested in a new Castlevania game taking the style of the first Lord of Shadows.

Rumors about a new Castlevania game came earlier this year when notable leaker KatharsisT suggested a soft reboot was in discussion between Konami and Sony. The most recent rumor comes from VGC's Andy Robinson, who reports that a "reimagining" of Castlevania is currently in development at Konami Japan with additional support from external studios.

Multiple Silent Hill Games in Development

Kojima's Silent Hills could have been a new start for the beloved survival horror franchise, though that didn't work out. Since PT got canceled, there has been an unprecedented demand for a new Silent Hill, and things may change soon. The possibility of multiple Silent Hill games in development at various external studios has been suggested by plenty of industry insiders, leakers, and journalists. Studios like Bloober Team, Kojima Productions, Blue Box, and Supermassive Games are reportedly involved in developing the next set of Silent Hill games, though nothing is confirmed as of this writing.

Metal Gear Solid Remake

Rumors about a full-fledged Metal Gear Solid Remake by Bluepoint Games have been floating around for over a year now. Notable leaker Moore's Law is Dead suggested in 2020 that a Metal Gear Solid Remake has been in development at Bluepoint for over three years. Furthermore, this alleged Metal Gear Solid Remake will feature controls from Metal Gear Solid 5, which is the most mechanically sound Metal Gear to date.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

While a Metal Gear Solid Remake seems like the obvious choice, another report suggests that several Metal Gear Solid remakes are in development. This info first came through KatharsisT, though VGC's Andy Robinson has since shed more light on the matter. It seems a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake may be in development at Singapore-based development studio Virtuos. Not much is known about this alleged project, though if VGC's report is anything to go by, it is still in the early phases of development.

Metal Gear Solid Collection

Metal Gear Solid Collection

A 4chan leak from earlier this year suggests a Metal Gear Solid Collection for PS5 is happening. If true, this wouldn't be the first time Konami released a Metal Gear Solid Collection. The first Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS3 and Xbox 360 consisted of Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, the PS5 collection will reportedly not contain Peace Walker, and instead feature a standalone release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. VGC's report suggests something similar with multiple remasters set to release before a Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake.

These are all the prominent Konami leaks and rumors that have been making the rounds online as of this writing. With Konami's restructuring underway this year, fans would no doubt be excited to see some, if not all of the aforementioned ideas come to life.
