Konami has claimed that the company hasn't given up on developing new games for consoles even though its mobile games have been a huge success, said Masami Saso, Konami's European President. "Even with new platforms coming out, we believe high-end console games are the most important," said Saso. "We challenge for innovative ideas and technology within our console games and apply them to other devices, so we will continue to put effort into our console games." Konami marked the fifth year of consecutive growth despite releasing only a few console games including its yearly PES installment.

Saso said that the company isn’t completely ready to announce any new entries in the Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid franchises. The company has been focusing mostly on mobile titles in recent years, and Pro Evolution Soccer has been the only major console game in regular work. Saso also revealed that the company has a bunch of unannounced projects in the pipeline, and these projects are based on globally known IPs. "We also plan to increase our portfolio. In addition to the multi-device titles for PES and Yu-Gi-Oh, we plan to work on projects with other globally known IPs in the near future."

The Japanese giant celebrated its 50th-anniversary last year, and recently it has been remastering some of its most popular classic franchises which include Castlevania and Contra. However, there are still no plans to revive the popular Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill franchises. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was released back in 2015, but Hideo Kojima left Konami later that year to establish his own game development studio. The series did make a comeback last year with a spin-off Metal Gear Survive, but the game didn't fare well when it came to reviews.

It's been a long time since the last Silent Hill game, which was released back in 2012. However, Konami did renew their Silent Hill trademark which has led to speculations that the series might be making a comeback, but there are no official details so far, and Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills game was canceled. Only time will tell what the future holds for Konami, but so far it looks like the company is happy with its mobile titles and an occasional console release. However, if Saso's words are to be taken seriously then maybe, Konami's getting back into Triple-A console development, fingers crossed.
