After the messy breakup with Konami, the revival with Sony, and a lengthy development period for his next game, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding is now only a few days away from release. The game itself has proven to be a little divisive for critics, but there's no denying that the game carries Kojima's unique flair and concepts. However, with the game nearing release, many have begun wondering what's next?

In a new feature from BBC Newsbeat detailing the inner workings of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima revealed that his studio will soon be venturing into other mediums like film in addition to video games.

The legendary developer believes that in the future, TV, movies, and games will all be competing with one another thanks to the increased popularity of streaming technology. Because of this, he believes that this will encourage new formats to emerge, something he's interest in exploring further. In his eyes, if you can do one thing well, you can do everything well.

This news shouldn't be too surprising to fans as Kojima is a well known movie buff and someone who has always had an interest in films even editing a column for Rolling Stone which analyzed the similarities and differences between video games and cinema. His games have also been wildly known to feature incredibly long cutscenes like the 27 minute one from Metal Gear Solid 4. According to reports, Death Stranding will likely follow this trend with an end sequence which ranges from 45 minute to 2 hours.

At this point, Kojima doesn't link Death Stranding as the starting point of the studios evolution into films, instead being something that the fans expect from him. However, it certainly doesn't hurt that the game features tons of Hollywood talent including Guillermo del Toro, Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and plenty more.

Death Stranding releases on November 8th, 2019, for PS4, and is set to release for PC in Summer 2020.
