After a series of cryptic messages, Kojima Productions has announced it will work with actress Elle Fanning in one of its upcoming titles. This confirms some fan speculations running around the internet that the actress would be tied to the project. However, there is still the question of exactly what project the actress will be involved in, with some stressing the possibility of a Death Stranding sequel. There has also been mention of the rumored Overdose game, so Death Stranding may not have anything to do with the upcoming game at all.

Previous news on what Kojima Productions plans to release next has been rather rocky. A Google Stadia exclusive was supposedly in the works but was apparently canceled due to the single-player nature of the game. Then, speculation surrounding a PlayStation-exclusive title spread across the internet like wildfire. Fans are all too familiar with Kojima's own original and mischievous way of revealing information about what Kojima Productions has been up to since the successful release of Death Stranding. He recently trolled fans at the Tokyo Game Show by showing up and giving no more in-depth details about the company's next game other than another silhouetted image of an unknown character and the words "Who am I?" Now, there's confirmation of the "who" is.

Elle Fanning’s involvement with Kojima Productions was revealed via a red-tinted poster image with the text “Who am I?” in huge print over the image. This teaser debuted at PAX Australia where fans scanned a QR code that read “Where am I?” which then led them to an official website by Kojima Productions that contained the image. There were no other details attached other than it was simply described as a “Hideo Kojima Game.” So it appears that PAX Australia was the location, or the “where,” mentioned in Kojima’s last teaser post on Twitter, which teased “The answer to ‘WHO’ at TGS will be in the next ‘WHERE’.”

This reveal officially confirms what fans had suspected since the release of the cryptic silhouetted images teased on Kojima’s Twitter page. While the image provided a solid answer on who exactly is involved in the next Kojima game, it also further adds to the ongoing mystery of what the next major title will involve. It’s possible that this teaser is for Overdose, a rumored game that Kojima has supposedly been working on for a while now, or the suspected Death Stranding sequel. No one knows for sure at this point.

There is a reason why many fans hope for another Death Stranding game. Its original flair to the sci-fi genre has since made it a modern classic to many, and it would make sense to further explore and expand a world that contains many possibilities. However, many also agree that a spin-off or prequel would be a better way to flesh out the universe of the game enough to provide a bit of context for a sequel to be significant enough to bring players back into the world of Death Stranding.

As for Kojima's rumored Overdose project, not much is known just yet. There are some rumors and leaks to work with, but there isn't much to speculate about. According to a reputable source, it will be a third-person horror game. Though it’s unconfirmed by Kojima himself, fans are excited at the prospect of the P.T. creator taking on another horror game. Whether it’s adding on to an already existing franchise, or introducing fans to something completely new, it will be interesting to see what Kojima Productions has up its sleeve.
