When famed video game auteur Hideo Kojima went out on his own after being dropped by Konami in 2015, fans waited eagerly to see what the Metal Gear Solid creator would emerge with now that he wasn't tethered to a huge corporation. In 2019, his new studio, Kojima Productions, released Death Stranding, which has since received mostly high praise and numerous awards. Now it looks as though the company is getting ready to announce its next project.

According to a recent interview with art director Yoji Shinkawa, Kojima Productions may be about to unveil what game it could potentially be working on next. Speaking to the YouTube channel Al Hub, Shinkawa, with the help of a translator, was asked a number of questions, such as how he got started in his career and what his work involved when he began collaborating with Kojima. On top of that, Shinkawa did say that he was currently "doing something" and that he may be able to give more details "quite soon." The full interview with Al Hub can be found below. Questions about the next project are right at the end of the video, at the 33-minute mark.

At the same time, Kojima Productions did say back in October that the studio had opened up new jobs in preparation for an undisclosed project. This was confirmed by the company's audio director, Ludwig Forssell, after he posted an image on his Twitter profile leaving many to believe he was beginning compositional work on a potential soundtrack.

While there's not a lot to go on, there will no doubt be many speculations as to what the studio could release next. At the end of 2020, word began to spread that Kojima and his company may have started working on Death Stranding 2 though there have been no confirmations on this. Depending on people's opinions, some may wish to see what more could be done with the Death Stranding story and universe, or they may be interested to see if a new IP may emerge. At this stage, it's difficult to know what the project will be.

As recently as this month, there were also rumors about an upcoming Kojima horror game, which may have been cancelled. After the phenomenon that was P.T. back in 2014, and the subsequent cancellation of the Silent Hills game, many fans will be keen to see what Kojima Productions could add to the horror genre. It seems to be something the famed director is interested in exploring, so hopefully the community won't have to wait too long to discover what game he and his studio will bring out next.

Death Stranding is available now on PC and PS4.
