Since the widespread popularity of games like Nintendo's Wii Fit in the early 2010s, fitness-based games have carved out their own niche in the gaming market. The advent of motion controls in video games and, more recently, virtual reality has led to a boom in games focused on providing workouts and exercises presented as gameplay. Recent games like Ring Fit Adventure and Beat Saber have expanded the genre with new and unique ideas. Now, European publisher Koch Media looks to be getting in on the fitness gaming craze.

Koch Media, based in Hofen, Austria, is a massive video games publisher that operates several publishers within the European market. Koch also runs a pair of video game developers based in Europe, Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios and MXGP developer Milestone. The media company has helped to publish titles in popular franchises like Payday and Saints Row and a recent trademark filed by the German-Austrian company suggests an upcoming fitness game may be in the works.

A recent trademark filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office by Koch Media lists an application for games software titled Let's Get Fit. The application was filed earlier this month and lists "use on mobile and cellular devices" as a part of the goods and services included as well as "augmented reality game software." While Koch Media hasn't made any official announcement of the game, the trademark implies that Let's Get Fit will be joining augmented reality games like Pokemon GO on mobile devices.

Not much is known about the potential fitness game from Koch Media outside of the title and the logo included within the trademark application. A fitness game would be a new avenue for the European media company as many of their subsidiaries lack substantial fitness games within the market. The success of many of Nintendo's outings between their in-house games like Wii Fit and publishing Japanese studio Imagineer's Fitness Boxing has inspired many other companies to jump into the fitness genre and the genre continues to see new and different ideas.

Recent fitness games have taken the genre away from its purely fitness-based roots and inserted its workout gameplay into a wide variety of genres. Between RPGs like the previously mentioned Ring Fit Adventure and popular VR rhythm game Beat Saber, fitness games continue to experiment with new ideas and new ways to get players on their feet working out. The title of Koch's Let's Get Fit seems to imply a much more traditional fitness game than those, but Koch's massive presence in the European gaming market should bode well for the upcoming venture into the world of fitness gaming.

Let's Get Fit is currently in development with no confirmed release date or consoles.
