Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is the highly anticipated sequel to 2019's Knives Out film. Director Rian Johnson recently revealed that the film will not only be hitting Netflix, it will also be hitting theaters for one week.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has had a lot of buzz surrounding it. Since Knives Out 2 wrapped filming nearly one year ago, the project has been eyeing a December 2022 release date on Netflix. Though none of the original cast is returning save Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc, the film will follow the theme set down by its predecessor of rich people behaving badly. The plot involves a tech billionaire (Edward Norton) inviting his friends for a getaway on a private Greek island. When someone turns up murdered, however, it's up to Benoit Blanc to crack the case.

Director Johnson took to Twitter to announce that Glass Onion would be hitting theaters prior to its December Netflix release. Thanking theater chains such as AMC, Regal, Cinemark, and more, Johnson excitedly announced that Knives Out 2 would be screening for one week around Thanksgiving as a theatrical sneak preview event. In a follow-up tweet, the director also explained that this is the first instance of a Netflix film being screened in all of these locations, and iterated that this was" a very big deal." He further clarified that tickets go on sale starting Monday, October 10.

The original Knives Out was a sleek, stylish affair that starred an ensemble cast, which included the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, and many more. It featured plenty of social commentary and was an old-school whodunit thriller. Following its release, Johnson explained his desire to create more films in the universe with Benoit Blanc at its center; a Sherlock Holmes for the modern age.

Glass Onion looks to be just as socially aware as its predecessor. Recently revealed Knives Out 2 character details point to the film being one that satirizes modern-day phenomena like tech billionaires, influencers, and again features working-class characters who are sure to suffer under their bosses and their drama.

Hopefully, Glass Onion provides some more of the iconic visuals and cinematography the original was known for. The original Knives Out was truly a feast for the eyes, and its sequel should live up to that. The prior installment also featured some memorable performances and characters, and it seems like the new cast is well up to the challenge of stepping into those shoes.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be in theaters for one week only around the Thanksgiving holiday, and will then release on Netflix on December 23, 2022.
