Two 'Kirby's Epic Yarn' Trailers Full of Puzzles and Cotton

kirbys epic yarn media extravaganza

One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises Nintendo dropped on us at this year's E3 was the unveiling of Kirby's Epic Yarn. Since then we've gotten our hands on it, and we saw it again at PAX Prime, while we cried like little babies over how adorable it all is.

Indeed, Kirby's latest offering -- his 10th game no less -- will be a Wii-exclusive that promises to bring quilt-simulation to the next level in a tactical onslaught of compelling gameplay mechanics drenched in a coat of cute. The new cotton-looking Kirby is, in fact, so aggressively adorable that, so far, all but the most cold-hearted of the masculine Game Rant writers have been reduced to tears at the sight of his ambrosial charm.

We have two Kirby's Epic Yarn trailers for you that will most assuredly drive you into a saccharine-induced coma.

Firstly, we have the 'Story Trailer'. It's in Japanese, but I think the visuals pretty much convey all the pertinent information: Kirby eats too much cotton and, as punishment, gets sucked into a sock. inside the sock is a patchwork world. Something gets kidnapped, so Kirby turns into a car.

The second video is the newest trailer, unveiled by Nintendo yesterday at the Tokyo Games Show, and features more gameplay elements than we have seen up to this point. Waking hibernating bears, driving over piano keys, pulling buttons from teddy bears' chests, it's all in here and it all looks fantastic.

Understand that when I say we are excited to play Kirby's Epic Yarn, we really are excited to play Kirby's Epic Yarn. The sheer diversity of puzzles and challenges on offer is tantalizing, and when combined with the overall patchwork quilt aesthetic, makes the whole package rather beguiling. And, gosh darn it, Kirby is cute as button.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is set to arrive on North American store shelves on October 17, 2010 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. Japanese Kirby fans can pick it up on October 14, 2010, whereas Europe will have to wait until Q1, 2011.
