But with 17 different copy abilities present in the game, which ones offer the best advantages in battle? Though the answer differs somewhat between playstyles, a few abilities stand out as great picks for beginners and veterans alike.

10 Hammer

Hammer Kirby from Super Kirby Clash

A staple in the franchise, Kirby's hammer hurts just as much as one would expect. This massive mallet may have short range, but what it lacks in distance, it more than makes up for in power. Kirby's dash attack and Hammer Twirl are musts, as they provide invincibility during their moves. Against stationary targets, players have a good opportunity to charge up a heavy Hammer Flip attack. A number of the Hammer's attacks require close-range combat, however, so be wary of quick opponents and grabs.

9 Archer

Archer Kirby from Kirby: Triple Deluxe

First appearing in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Archer Kirby appears basic on the surface. He equips a bow and arrow; what more is there to say? Quite a bit, in fact! While most of his attacks do involve lobbing arrows at foes from a distance, he can also charge the arrows to send more powerful projectiles sailing. One standout feature of this ability, though, is its Camouflage technique. During the move, Kirby is completely invulnerable, and he can quickly duck out to shoot arrows at grounded opponents.

8 Ninja

Ninja Kirby

Ninja Kirby's combination of speed and range (in the form of a seemingly endless supply of kunai) make him an admirable fighter. While this ability offers less power than others, waves of kunai and Blossom Storm attacks can easily overwhelm opponents. Ninja's dodge also comes with a Clone Technique counterattack, which damages enemies in a smokescreen explosion.

Ninja also comes with a Wall Cling mechanic that allows Kirby to throw even more kunai from a perched position. If anyone tries to get too close, scoop them up in a grab and hurl them away before resuming the throwing knife onslaught.

7 Fighter

Fighter Kirby artwork

The main appeal of this headband-donning hero is the versatility of his moveset. Fighter Kirby takes a lot of inspiration from games like Street Fighter, complete with flurry punches and a Hadouken-style energy blast. His aerial moves offer great combo potential, as well, from his Rising Break uppercut to his diving Sky Kick. And because of the sheer number of hits coming out of Kirby's stubby hands and legs, the damage racks up very quickly. As to be expected with hand-to-hand combat, Fighter's glaring weakness is his general lack of range. He has a wicked dash attack to compensate, so use it to get in quickly and bring the fight to them!

6 Whip

Whip Kirby

In this form, Kirby sports a cowboy hat and whip that would make even Indiana Jones jealous. The whip itself has decent range, making it able to keep close-quarters combatants at bay. Charging the standard whip attack allows Kirby to snatch up opponents and launch them at will; this also works on certain objects, such as the stars made by some boss attacks. Whip Kirby can also launch himself into the air with a Whip Tornado, which catches airborne enemies in a whirlwind of lashes.

5 Sword

Kirby's Sword copy ability is easily one of the most iconic in the game, so it makes sense that it would also be one of the most fleshed-out in terms of movesets. While it has an average power and speed to its attacks, the sword has a wide variety of moves at its disposal.

Many of the moves feel like they come straight out of a Legend of Zelda game; the Spin Slash and Sword Beam are two of the most notable examples. This makes sense, though, as Kirby usually wears the same green cap as Link when he hacks and slashes at foes.

4 Bell

Bell Kirby attacking Waddle Dees in Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Another Triple Deluxe representative, the Bell is a quirky yet oddly satisfying ability. They may not seem like a go-to pick for weaponry, but Kirby's bells actually pack quite the punch. Both the bells and their resonant sound waves damage nearby enemies. The large bell on Kirby's head, meanwhile, acts both as a shield and as a counter to unsuspecting attackers. As an added bonus, its dash attack launches bells into the air, catching opponents at a distance. Ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for Kirby.

3 Wrestler

Wrestler is the newest copy ability made available to Kirby, debuting in this very game. Much like Fighter, Wrestler utilizes melee-style combat with a versatile moveset. But this time, Kirby's moves get a dramatic flourish that can only be found in the lucha libre wrestling ring! Grabs are the name of the game with Wrestler; Kirby can springboard off of these throws to chain powerful combos together, dishing out serious damage with just a few hits. Landing a suplex has never looked so devastating and adorable at the same time.

2 Staff

Staff Kirby

With so many fighters needing to get in close to deal damage, ranged attacks have a significant advantage. For this reason, the Staff copy ability gets a huge edge on the competition. While its moves are fairly straightforward, their extended reach means that opponents must think twice when attempting to approach. Staff can also pole vault while in the air to jump across wide gaps, then follow it up with a slew of rapid jabs from above. Even with it being one of the newer copy abilities (only seen in Kirby Star Allies so far), it has proven itself a worthy contender in combat.

1 Yo-Yo

Yo-Yo takes the cake as one of the sickest abilities in Kirby's arsenal. Capable of pulling off gnarly tricks like Walk the Dog and Gazer Spiral, Kirby shows off moves that are both fun and frightening. One of Yo-Yo's greatest moves is the Yo-Yo Orbit, which spins around Kirby to create a barrier of sorts. Anyone caught within its range will simply get launched back, making this ability another radical option for outranging opponents. After all, there's no need for close combat when Kirby's moves are this far out!
