It seems like Nintendo just refuses to let go of their tiny dual-screened handheld, despite gamers wishing for everything to be ported over to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo just announced in their Nintendo Direct that Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is being ported over to the Nintendo 3DS sometime in 2019.

Kirby’s Epic Yarn was originally released in 2010 on the Wii. While retaining many of the features that fans of the series know and love from previous games, Kirby and his playground get a unique makeover where the entire world is crafted from yarn. The 3DS port will contain all the levels that were included in the Wii version and will add some extra content to the game as well.

Much like the Wii version, Kirby will be able to use his yarn whip and assimilate different abilities that will help him out in his journey through Patch World, though some new moves will be available as well such as being able to conjure up wind or make bigger yarn balls. Mini-games will also be added to the mix where players will be able to assume the role of other popular characters such as Meta Knight and King Dedede. To up the challenge to a series that is traditionally more on the casual side, a new mode called “Devilish Mode” will have an enemy chasing you throughout the stages.

Kirby already has quite the catalogue of games on the 3DS and it seems like Nintendo wants to keep pushing the pink puffball on the platform to keep the system’s waning momentum going. It has been eight years since Kirby’s Epic Yarn launched on the Wii so the port will give many new gamers and those who missed it the first time around a chance to check out one of Kirby’s best adventures.

It might be disappointing for some Nintendo Switch owners that the game is not being ported to the company’s newest hardware, though this decision probably comes from the fact that Kirby Star Allies was only released a few months back. Considering the install base of the Nintendo 3DS, pushing another Kirby title on one of the most popular handhelds of all time isn’t a terrible strategy on Nintendo’s part.

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn will be out for the Nintendo 3DS in 2019.
