The latest Kirby game in the franchise, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, features a brand-new world entirely separate from the familiar Planet Popstar. While Kirby retains his trademark copy abilities, he's also gained a new ability called "Mouthful Mode," which allows him to utilize certain inanimate objects. Rescuing Waddle Dees is Kirby's ultimate goal in Kirby and the Forgotten Land this time around, but there are plenty of bonus levels called Treasure Roads that players can enjoy.

Players will unlock more Treasure Roads as they complete levels in each region. Some Treasure Roads can be unlocked by "Searching" on the overworld map. Each Treasure Road is a timed level that rewards Rare Stones upon completion. Players are given a "Target Time" that will give an extra 50 coins if players manage to beat the level within that time frame. Treasure Roads allow Kirby to practice his copy abilities and Mouthful Mode, but some are a bit trickier than others. The "Step It Up! Moving the Stairs" is a Treasure Road in the Everybay Coast with a 3-star difficulty level.

Finding the "Step It Up!" Treasure Road

In order to get the "Step It Up! Moving the Stairs" Treasure Road, players will need to have completed the Natural Plains world. Defeat Gorimondo in Brawl at the Mall, and then head to Everbay Coast. The "Step It Up!" Treasure Road is to the northeast corner of the shore.

This Treasure Road has players use Stairs Mouth Kirby. The Target Time is 1:45:00, but players will have 3:00:00 to complete it. It's not necessary for players to complete the Treasure Road within the Target Time unless they want extra coins.

Since Kirby moves very slowly as Stairs Mouth Kirby, players need to hurry from one level to another in this Treasure Road.

Step It Up! Moving the Stairs: Area 1

The basics of the Treasure Road is to move the stairs to the switch as Stairs Mouth Kirby, then step on the switch at the top of the platform with Kirby. While this sounds easy, Kirby cannot turn when he's Stairs Mouth. This means each set of stairs have a specific switch they need to be placed on.

Map 1 is very easy.

  1. Use the Mouthful ability on the stairs.
  2. Destroy the rows of metal blocks along with the Awoofy.
  3. Press Y to place the stairs on the switch in the corner.
  4. Climb up these stairs as normal Kirby, step on the switch at the top, then take the warp pad.

Now players have three stairs to move. Notice how each one is facing a different direction. Again: Kirby cannot turn when he's Stairs Mouth Kirby.

Here's how to move the stairs:

  1. Go to the top stairs (indicated by the number 1 in the above image) and move it to the lower-right switch.
  2. Then, go to the stairs closest to the spawn point (number 2) and destroy the metal blocks with the Kirby enemies on them. Then, press Y to place the stairs on the far-right switch.
  3. Backtrack to the stairs at the lowest part of the screen (number 3) and move that to the switch at the top-left.
  4. Climb up Stairs 2 to get to the fourth switch, and then step on the warp pad.

The end result should look like this:

Step It Up! Moving the Stairs: Area 3

With five sets of stairs, things are starting to look a bit chaotic. But if players have about 2:25:00 minutes, they should have enough time to get the Target Time bonus in this Kirby and the Forgotten Land level.

Ignore the two stairs to the far right for now. Focus on the three stairs by the "entrance" (i.e: where Kirby spawned). Follow these steps closely:

  1. Have Kirby inhale Stairs 3 (the stairs to the left of the first row of boxes) and destroy all three rows of boxes with the enemies.
  2. Then, move Stairs 3 back to where the first row of boxes once were. Press Y to exit and leave Stairs 3 alone for now.
  3. Take Stairs 1 (the north most stairs on the left side) and move it to the adjacent switch. Press Y to exit.
  4. Take Stairs 2 (the stairs closest to the "entrance") and move them to the far north of the left side of the map. Destroy the blocks, but be careful of the enemy throwing bones at Kirby. Press Y to place the stairs on the upper-right switch.
  5. Finally, go back to where Kirby left Stairs 3 and place it on the switch next to Stairs 2.

With Stairs 1-3 out of the way, it's time to move on to Stairs 4 and Stairs 5. The results should look like this so far:

Here's how to move Stairs 4 and Stairs 5:

  1. Take Stairs 4 (the bottom set of stairs on the right side) and move it to switch on the opposite end of the map (the switch near the "spawn point").
    1. If players forget to clear the metal boxes as mentioned in the previous steps, use Stairs 4 to get rid of them.
  2. Take Stairs 5 (the last set of stairs) and move it to the left onto the leftmost switch on the right side.
  3. Climb up the stairs and step on the final switch next to the warp pad on the top platform.

If done correctly, the final map should look like this:

Players should be able to get the bonus coins (50 coins) if they manage to complete the level at 1:45:00 or higher.

Step It Up! Moving the Stairs: Bonus Tips

kirby and the forgotten land step it up treasure road results

Some reminders when tackling this Treasure Road to get a high clear time:

  • Kirby does not need to be right on top of the switch before clicking Y to spit out the stairs. When Kirby exits the stairs in Mouthful Mode, the stairs will "push" a little ways from where Kirby is standing. This means Kirby can be a few feet away from the switch and still place the stairs on top of said switch when exiting with Y-button. Knowing where Kirby will "spit out" the stairs will help players move faster along the map.
  • Use Mouthful ability when the "Mouthful" icon pops up over the stairs Kirby's meant to inhale. In Area 3, it's very easy to inhale the wrong set of stairs, costing players precious time.
  • Clear the Kirby enemies and obstacles before pressing switches.
  • Pay attention to the direction the stairs are facing.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is available now on Nintendo Switch.
