The King's Man has finally been released following countless delays, but before it made its way into theatres, director Matthew Vaughn hinted at the upcoming Kingsman 3 and what fans can expect.

The King's Man, while still a part of the Kingsman franchise, is a prequel film because its story takes place in the early 1900s and depicts the formation of the spy agency, with stars Ralph Fiennes as Orlando Oxford, Duke of Oxford, and Harris Dickinson as Conrad. The two race against time to stop the gathering of tyrants and criminal masterminds who plot to start a war that will take out millions. Knowing that The King's Man will not move the main story forward after the events of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, fans began wondering what to expect from Kingsman 3.

While promoting The King's Man, Vaughn opened up during a group interview with Collider about Kingsman 3 and what's next for fan-favorite characters like Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Harry Hart (Colin Firth). “Eggsy and Harry [will be in it], obviously. But it’s the gang coming back together and it's one of those moments that…when we wrote the screenplay, it was very much about, okay, I saw how people loved the relationship of Eggsy and Harry," Vaughn shared. "So we just came up with this thing, what could be the ultimate reason for them to either fall in love or to hate each other forever? So that's what this movie is all about is will they or won't they, let's just say."

Kingsman-1

While the first two Kingsman installments were praised for their over-the-top, bonkers action sequences and eye-popping visuals that revamped the spy genre in a unique way, the real heart of those films stemmed from the dynamic between its two leads. With Vaughn now claiming that the third film will offer a greater exploration between Eggsy and Hart, there's no doubt that Kingsman 3 could become one of the most emotional and impactful films in the entire franchise.

Vaughn, who has helmed all of the Kingsman films so far, originally planned to shoot The King's Man back-to-back with the third mainline film, but the pandemic put a halt to things. Now, the director is currently filming his other spy thriller, titled Argylle. Though Kingsman 3 is still early in development, as it is set to begin filming sometime in 2022, The King's Man, along with Vaughn's other projects, should keep the anticipation level high for fans of the spy genre and Kingsman franchise.

Although it has been receiving mixed reviews, The King's Man contains some of the most unique and thrilling fight scenes in the Kingsman film series. The cast also includes Rhys Ifans as Grigori Rasputin, Gemma Arterton as Polly, Djimon Hounsou as Shola, Matthew Goode as Captain Morton/The Shepherd, Daniel Brühl as Erik Jan Hanussen, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Lee Unwin.

The King's Man is now playing in theaters.
