Imagine a world where games like Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion are designed with the artwork of Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and bestselling writer R.A. Salvatore putting the story and lore together. If you’re mind’s still in one piece, then you may have stumbled upon 38 Studio’s first foray into the action RPG universe, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Starting as a blank slate in the world of Amalur, players will be faced with “5 distinct regions, 4 playable races, and 3 class trees with 22 abilities per tree.” Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning gives players the option of unlocking distinct “Destinies” that will be their class system. The game supports a combat system with quicktime events similar to those that other action titles (such as God of War) have become so fond of. However, proper timing and strategy will be needed to guarantee that players make the most out of their battles, especially given some of the bigger enemies seen in the trailer and screenshots below.

If you’re concerned over things like magic, enemies, stats, and those other necessities of your standard RPG’s, rest easy. 38 Studios has said that the upcoming few days will bring more news about combat mechanics, along with information on what exactly players will see in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. However, the developers have promised that there will be hundreds of hours worth of entertainment, and that no two people will have the same experience.

What do you think of this latest look at Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? Are you looking forward to the game? How do you think it will compare to Skyrim?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is scheduled for a early 2012 release on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
