Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning System Requirements

Here's a question: what do you get when you mix a former Major League Baseball star, the creator of Spawn, the lead designer on two Elder Scrolls games, and a story written by legendary fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore? The answer is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The creation of Todd MacFarlane, Curt Schilling and others is looking to find success where other fantasy franchises have failed, but will your own gaming rig cringe in the face of such a monumental project?

There may be a chance that you have yet to hear of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which isn't that surprising. Aside from one mouthful of a name, the series lacks any mainstream attention due to its strange beginnings and odd combination of creative forces at developer 38 Studios. Nevertheless, Amalur has become one of our most anticipated games of 2012 with an art style and action-oriented combat that we can't wait to explore at length.

The game's E3 trailer and screenshots showed a visual design that was as ambitious as it was inspired - what else would you expect from the mind behind Spawn - and console fans should be pleased to know that having the hardware to run it isn't something they need worry themselves over.

For PC fans though, you still have a month until the game's release to get your system up to spec. Thanks to a posting on the game's official forums we know the minimum and recommended system requirements to do this adventure justice. Have a look and see if some hardware purchases are in your future:

It's never good news to find out that your PC is lagging behind the leading edge, but if there is a game to make sure you're capable of running it just might be Kingdoms. The developers have made no secret of the fact that their overall goal is to use this release as the launching pad for an Amalur MMO. R. A. Salvatore has apparently crafted millenia of fiction for the realm's backstory, so anything less than an expansive and far-spreading game world would be a waste.

If you're still on the fence about yet another fantasy MMO or RPG being worth your time, be sure to check out our PAX impressions of the game's demo. Hopefully you'll soon find yourself counting down the days as frantically as we are.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be released February 7 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
