Kingdom Hearts is a pretty crazy franchise. It is a mixture between Disney and Square Enix, creating a universe that works in a combination of both Snow White and Final Fantasy logic. The games have a love and light versus darkness and hate. The creativity put into the lore is more than a little mind-blowing. In fact, a lot of it doesn't make sense or is just incredibly difficult to explain. However, that is part of why the games are loved.

Here are ten weird things that the Kingdom Hearts series got away with.

10 There Are A Lot Of Xehanorts

The main villain, Xehanort, has many forms. There is young Xehanort, old Xehanort, and robed figure Xehanort. That's not even half of them though! There are half-Xehanorts like Xemnas, Ansem, Terra-Xehanort, Xigbar, Riku-Ansem, Ia, dark Riku, and the Dark Guardian.

So . . . that's a lot.

9 Nobodies Don't Have Hearts Or Feelings, Except They Kind Of Do

The definition of a Nobody is that they are made when a heartless is made, and thus they have no hearts. So they can't have feelings, right? Well, despite believing they don't have feelings or hearts, characters like Axel, Sora, and Xion really show that they are just like everyone else.

Then we do learn that they actually have hearts. So what's up with all that? We don't really get a solid explanation.

8 Sora Has A Lot Of People Inside Him

When Kairi's heart was inside Sora int he first game, it acted like a big deal. Turns out, it wasn't, because his heart has been a hotel forothers since he was practically a baby. This includes Ventus, Roxas, and Xion. Kairi was not the first or the last to hang out there.

7 Seeing Toon Characters In Pirates Of The Caribbean

The Pirate of the Caribbean world in the second and third games is uncanny. You take a look at Johnny Depp and then next to him is Donald Duck and Goofy. In the second game, Pete makes appearances and that looks even more odd as he is blended into scenes from the actual Pirates of the Caribbean film.

6 We Still Don't Really Know What Kingdom Hearts Is

It is actually pretty unbelievable that a lot of fans still don't understand what Kingdom Hearts is, despite the fact that its the title of the game and drives the plot forward. When told what Kingdom Hearts is in the game, you only come up with more questions. For example, what does it mean to be the heart of all worlds? How is it a source of power and wisdom? What kind of power? What kind of wisdom?

Even after the third game, players still don't quite get it.

5 Goofy Almost Dying

For the really young players, this scene must have been traumatizing. In the second game, Goofy protects Mickey from a giant flying stone. He falls back and gets knocked out. For a while, the game leads its players to believe that he has died.

To make it even more strange, Mickey Mouse then goes on an revenge charge into battle. Most players did know that this was a fake-out and Goofy would be fine, but it was still pretty weird.

4 There Are Multiple People Named Ansem

If the amount of Xehanorts was not confusing enough, there was also Ansem. There is the real Ansem, Ansem the Wise. Then there is Xehanort's heartless who also calls himself Ansem. We also have a Xehanort who stole Ansem's name. Riku also called himself Ansem for a while and was possessed by the heartless Ansem.

3 Mickey Mouse Talking About The "Door To Darkness"

Kingdom Hearts does its best in trying to make everyone take Mickey Mouse seriously, and it ends up being pretty weird. At various scenes, he wears a dark cloak and talks about the "door to darkness." Its quite the different angle from Mickey Mouse from 1928's Steamboat Willie.

Its hard to make the face of Disney seem edgy, but Kingdom Hearts still gave it the old college try.

2 Random Final Fantasy Characters

Remember, this is also made by Square Enix. So along with Disney worlds, they added Final Fantasy characters from their other games. This includes characters such as Tifa, Cloud, Sephiroth, Cid, Yuffie, Squall, Aerith, Zack, Tidus, Auron, and more.

Most of then are Sora's friends and some are even boss battles that range from optional to required to get through the main story.

1 Arbitrary Possessions And Transformations

There are are many possessions and transformations that its hard to take them seriously anymore in the series. Terra gets possessed, however his soul remains in armor somehow. Riku gets possessed but he ends up fine. Aqua gets possessed for a brief time.

Along with these possessions are transformations. Riku can sometimes turn into Ansem, but only when he takes off his blindfold in some of the games.
