While fans continue waiting for the release of Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix may be prepping a special collection to keep them occupied. This week a listing for something called the Kingdom Hearts PS4 Collection appeared online and has built a lot of fan excitement.

Although this is only a leaked listing at this point, it seems very likely that the Kingdom Hearts PS4 Collection is real. Multiple retailers have the product listed online, and all have a price listed at 69.99 €. It could be a coincidence, but the more likely scenario is that news of the collection broke earlier than intended. Paris Games Week is right around the corner and Sony is said to have some fun announcements for PS4 players during the event. This could be one of those announcements, and would likely generate a fair deal of buzz.

As far as what games could be included in the Kingdom Hearts PS4 Collection it sounds like it will package the contents of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix into a single disc. Both smaller collections released earlier this year, but as separate products. Now it seems like Square Enix is going to save fans a little money by selling everything under one complete collection. And since it wouldn’t be a complete Kingdom Hearts collection without Re:Chain of Memories, the 3DS title is getting added to the mix as well.

For any players looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 3, this collection should be the perfect primer. Square Enix’s series might only feature a few mainline games, but the story has become more complex as it has gone on. What was initially pitched as a mixture between Final Fantasy and Disney movie properties ballooned to become a series about the nature of identity and moral fortitude, with a lore that is as deep as anything in gaming.

So even if you do play all of the games in the Kingdom Hearts series it’s still possible to be confused. Still, the combat and the world design are strong enough to make most of the Kingdom Hearts games worth playing and if the story grabs you then that’s an added bonus.

Kindom Hearts PS4 Collection is only rumored at this point, but may be announced at Paris Games Week.
