Kingdom Hearts is one of the most popular RPG series in the world. The franchise has been around for 20 years now, and Square Enix recently held an event to showcase upcoming releases. While many fans have been anticipating the release of Kingdom Hearts 4 and the final update for Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road, an unexpected title was also announced, Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, which surprised many gamers.

In the trailer for Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, fans got to see a mysterious character in an Organization XIII coat walk down a road in Scala ad Caelum. This character is likely Luxu since they held the No Name keyblade, but could also be one of the people that inherited it from him over time. Another character, who has not been seen before, wears a white uniform as they walk over to Ephemer's statue and summon their keyblade. This new character is revealed to be a protagonist of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, as gameplay is shown of them running around a city and fighting heartless.

Unlike the other mobile games in the Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link's gameplay shares a lot of similarities to console titles. As the gameplay portion of the trailer transitioned to show some of the locations in Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, the playable character also changes. Whether the story will revolve around multiple protagonists or if the game has character customization remains unknown as of now, but multiplayer has been confirmed.

At the end of the trailer, fans also got to see Brain. This is the first time Brain has been shown outside of Kingdom Hearts: Union X, revealing what he looks like in the series' more traditional artstyle. The trailer then transitioned to reveal Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link's logo. It was also revealed that a closed beta will come out later this year and that the game will be available on iOS and Android.

With the final update of Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road coming in August and the hopes that more information about Kingdom Hearts 4 and Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link will be revealed throughout 2022, fans have a lot to look forward to this year. While some players were hoping that a remake of Kingdom Hearts: Union X for consoles would be announced during the 20th Anniversary Event, it's great that a mobile game that shares similarities to the console titles will be coming instead, giving players a brand-new story that is said to resolve some of Kingdom Hearts' biggest mysteries.

Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link's closed beta is coming out in 2022 for mobile devices.
