Square Enix may have taken over a decade to release Kingdom Hearts 3, but the company has released Kingdom Hearts spin-off games on a regular basis, with new titles coming out frequently. As it so happens, it appears as though Square Enix is preparing to launch a brand new Kingdom Hearts spin-off game called Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories, if a recent leak is any indication.
Dataminers have dug through the files of Square Enix's site for the Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road mobile game, which is where they found a logo for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories. No other details were revealed in the datamine, but Reddit user adogrocks50 pointed out an interesting detail about the logo that could actually reveal some significant information about what Melody of Memories will entail.
adogrocks50 pointed out that Kingdom Hearts games with a long "K" in the title (as in the, the bottom of the "K" wraps around the rest of the logo) typically do not feature Sora as the protagonist. This could be an indication that Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories will feature someone other than series mainstay Sora as the main playable character, or it could just be a coincidence.
Based on the events of Kingdom Hearts 3 Re: Mind, it's being assumed that the next game in the series will feature Kairi in the starring role. This would be quite the departure for the Kingdom Hearts series, but it could also please longtime Kairi fans who want to see her take on a more active role.
Kairi was playable in the Re: Mind DLC, so maybe that was Square Enix's way of testing the waters for a full-fledged Kairi spin-off game. Of course, that's assuming that Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories is even a game that is in active development. Perhaps that was the original title of Dark Road, or maybe it's for a completely different project that's not going to materialize as a video game.
Until an official announcement comes, all fans can do is speculate. And with E3 2020 canceled, it's hard to say when Square Enix may reveal its upcoming slate of games, but perhaps a Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories announcement will come to light sooner rather than later.
