Ever since Kingdom Hearts was released back in 2002, fans have wanted elements and characters from the franchise to crossover into Disney Parks -- the series is all about crossovers after all. Not surprisingly, Kingdom Hearts executive producer Shinji Hashimoto feels the same way, and would love to see the franchise featured in the theme parks.

According to KHInsider, who translated the recent Square Enix Annual Shareholders Meeting, Shinji Hashimoto expressed his strong desire to see a collaboration with Disney Parks during a Q&A session at the event.

After being asked if there was a possibility of Kingdom Hearts being included in a future Disney Parks expansion, Hashimoto said, "As a Japanese person, it's been nothing short of a dream to be able to play something developed by a Japanese creator with Disney, especially the same Disney that owns such properties like Frozen and Star Wars."

Noting the growing popularity of the franchise, he even suggested he might bring it up to Disney, believing it would certainly aid in the growth of the parks. "Since Disney has an increasingly high regard for [Kingdom Hearts], I’d like to reach out to them and discuss this further. Sales inside Disneyland will certainly contribute to the growth of the customer base," Hashimoto said.

It would not be a stretch to believe that Disney has already been contemplating a collaboration. Last year, Donald Duck and Goofy, dressed in their Kingdom Hearts attire, made an appearance at a cast appreciation party at the EPCOT park. This makes it clear that Disney is ready and able to bring the series to its parks, now it is just a question of whether the company wants to incorporate it fully, outside of special events. Perhaps fans may even see a bit of cross-promotion inside the parks as we near the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 early next year.

Speaking of the sequel, during a recent interview, director Tetsuya Nomura said that he would like to show off the Big Hero 6 world soon. It was announced that Big Hero 6 would be a part of Kingdom Hearts 3 at the 2015 D23 Expo, but nothing on the world has been seen or mentioned since. Many thought it would make an appearance at E3 2018, where a few of the included worlds were introduced, but Big Hero 6 was a no-show. The next D23 Expo is not until 2019, but there are still plenty of conventions and gaming industry events coming later this year, so that could be the moment that audiences get a peek at this new world.

As for what comes after Kingdom Hearts 3, there is a good chance the series will continue in some fashion, whether through more sequels or spinoff titles. While those have not been confirmed just yet, DLC for the title has. During an interview with Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura said that post-launch DLC is planned, and that it would be standalone content and will not be a part of a Season Pass.

Kingdom Hearts 3 launches January 29, 2019 for PS4 and Xbox One.
