Kingdom Hearts Dark Road currently features three worlds: Agrabah, Wonderland, and Scala Ad Caelum. However, out of these three, only two are playable, those being Agrabah and Wonderland. Both worlds have played a part in Dark Road's story and act as settings for its endless game mode archetype, where players can rack up materials necessary to synthesize new items. This endless game type is also the only consistent content that Dark Road has to its name.

Luckily, it looks like the majority of this will change for the better soon. A new leak suggests that the next major Kingdom Hearts Dark Road update will turn Scala Ad Caelum from a bystander world to a playable one like its fellows. Not only that, but Scala will introduce a new game type for players to enjoy. As reported by Twitter user Roboloid, the leak comes from an email sent out by Square Enix Bridge, which reveals that the new changes will come with the 4.2.0 update happening sometime this month.

The new game mode revolves around climbing one of Scala's 500-floor towers. Each floor contains a random group of enemies that will get stronger as the player progresses toward the top. Apparently, the quality of the rewards players receive will go up with the enemy's strength. What these rewards consist of remains a mystery, but hopefully, they're more than just synthesis materials, which speaking of, there should be new items to grab as Scala Ad Caelum is a new playable world.

Now, whether Scala's tower game mode will tie into a new story update remains unclear. Scala is the hub world of Xehanort and his friends, so of course, it's appeared in the story already. However, this will be the first time the world is playable, so Dark Road's fourth episode may center around it. It doesn't seem likely since episode 3's ending hints at Xehanort and the others exploring new areas, but it's possible.

Regardless, it'll be interesting to see what Scala's tower brings. Kingdom Hearts Dark Road needs something new to keep it relevant, considering how spaced out its story updates are. The game has been out for six months, and so far, only three episodes have come out. Conceivably, another story update will happen with 4.2.0 to accompany the tower, as it seems like something that would have some lore attached to it. Maybe it'll even give more insight into Master Odin.

Kingdom Hearts Dark Road is on IOS and Android.
