The Kingdom Hearts series is home to some of the most iconic characters in video game history. Since the series debuted in 2002, the franchise has featured a variety of different Square Enix and Disney characters but never once has it relied solely on these additions to tell its story. A great deal of effort has gone into creating original Kingdom Hearts characters, but they don't always get the chance to shine.

Though some of Kingdom Hearts' side characters have managed to earn themselves their own spin-off games, Sora remains the main protagonist of the series. There's nothing wrong with this, as he is a compelling character, but it would be nice to see some of his friends and enemies take center stage occasionally.

10 Axel

Kingdom Hearts Axel Close Up

Axel is one of the most unpredictable characters in the Kingdom Hearts series. When he's not burning his comrades to a crisp, he will most likely be found enjoying some sea-salt ice cream atop Twilight Town's clock tower. He has done some truly terrible things, but he has since tried to atone for his mistakes

An Axel spin-off game could follow both his and Saix's journey to reunite with their missing friend, Subject X. It could offer some much-needed context on their connection to the unknown character, while also documenting Axel and Saix's struggle to rekindle their lost bond.

9 Demyx

Demyx

Though Demyx has appeared in a variety of different Kingdom Hearts titles, he remains one of the most mysterious presences in the series. He stands out as the most unsuited member of Organization 13 due to his bubbly personality and sitar-playing abilities, but he has been known to get aggressive when he needs to.

Some fans believe Demyx is the Master of Masters, but it's currently impossible to tell. All anyone knows about his past is that he is somehow connected to the Keyblade War. Sadly, this doesn't answer any real questions, but a spin-off centered on Demyx's life probably would.

8 Ventus

Ventus in Kingdom Hearts 3

Ven was always an interesting character, but not very much was known about his past before the events of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. All the game told players was that Xehanort took care of Ven for a short while before the beginning of the game.

Kingdom Hearts: Union X [Cross] chose to give Ven the backstory he deserved, subsequently making him one of the most important characters in the series. A spin-off centered solely around Ven could follow his journey to reconvene with his old friends from the past, most of whom he has yet to remember.

7 Luxord

Kingdom Hearts III Luxord

Luxord, the Gambler of Fate, is arguably one of the most enigmatic characters in the entire Kingdom Hearts series. He was first introduced in Kingdom Hearts 2, where he was tasked by Xemnas to document Sora's journey to Port Royal. Since then, he has become a much more central character, and thanks to the Kingdom Hearts 3 Re Mind DLC, it seems he is due to become a much bigger part of the story.

If Sora wins the battle against Yozora in Quadratum, the player will be rewarded with a fascinating cutscene wherein Yozora wakes up in the back seat of a car. After a moment passes, Luxord is revealed to be in the driver's seat. Not much is known about Luxord's past, apart from that he has ties to the ancient Keyblade War. If he was to receive a spin-off, perhaps his full story could be told.

6 Larxene & Marluxia

Larxene and Marluxia in Kingdom Hearts 3

First introduced in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Larxene, and Marluxia were two of the most ruthless villains in the series. Not only did they antagonize Sora on his second adventure, but they also planned to betray the Organization and take control of it for themselves.

Since then, a great deal of the duo's past has been explored in the Kingdom Hearts: Union X [Cross] mobile game. Before they became the sinister antagonists most fans know them as today, they led relatively peaceful lives as Keyblade wielders. Though this entry revealed how they ended up in the future, not much is known about how they came to join Organization 13.

5 Aqua

Aqua received her own spin-off, entitled Kingdom Hearts: 0.2 Birth By Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage, before the release of Kingdom Hearts 3. It documented her time in the Realm of Darkness, and the horrors she was exposed to while she was trapped there. It was an interesting spin-off, but it was much too short for players to explore Aqua's character in full.

The climax of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory saw Kairi asking for Aqua to train her. Though future entries in the series will likely be touching on their time together, it would be even better if the player got the chance to play through it themselves in a spin-off.

4 Roxas

Video Game Mages Roxas Kingdom Hearts III

While Sora was sleeping in Castle Oblivion, Roxas was working for Organization 13 in The World that Never Was. He spent one year of his life using the Keyblade to defeat the heartless, but his time was cut short when he was forced to return to Sora's heart.

Roxas became his own person during the climax of Kingdom Hearts 3, meaning that he no longer needed to live inside Sora's heart. He now has the chance to live a normal life, but first, he must assist his friends in their search for Sora. If a spin-off title focused on Roxas' life after his resurrection, it could document the journey he goes on between the events of the Re Mind and Limit-Cut episodes.

3 Xigbar

Xigbar

Xigbar has appeared in multiple Kingdom Hearts titles since his debut in Kingdom Hearts 2. His first role saw him aiding the Organization on their quest to summon Kingdom Hearts, but he has since been revealed to have a much more sinister goal.

Xigbar has adopted several different names and forms during his time in servitude to the Master of Masters. Once, he referred to himself as Luxu, and though his title has changed countless times since then, he has never stopped working to achieve his goal. A spin-off centered around Xigbar could detail how his latest form came to be, and the lives he had to ruin to obtain it.

2 Skuld

Ephemer and Skuld in Kingdom Hearts: Union X [Cross]

Though many fans believed Kingdom Hearts X [Cross] was nothing more than a spin-off game of little consequence, it slowly became one of the most important games in the series. Not only did it introduce an array of new, endearing faces, but it also detailed how some of the series' most iconic characters came to be.

The climax of this title saw Ventus, Marluxia, Larxene, and Skuld traveling to the future. Ventus, Marluxia, and Larxene arrived during the time of Birth by Sleep, but not much is known about what happened to Skuld. Many have assumed her to be the elusive "Subject X" referred to in Kingdom Hearts 3's Secret Reports, but it's still too early to tell. If she were to receive a spin-off game, perhaps her journey could be detailed in full.

1 Yozora

Yozora, first introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3, is one of the most fascinating characters in the Kingdom Hearts series. In Sora's world, Yozora is a video game character confined to a game known as Verum Rex. Most fans didn't think much of Yozora the first time they encountered him, but he became a much more prominent figure in the Re Mind DLC.

Yozora is arguably the most challenging superboss in the entire Kingdom Hearts series, which is strange considering how much effort it takes to defeat the Data Battles in Re Mind. If he gets a spin-off, and he most likely will, it could reveal how he came to possess such baffling power, and also, what he really looks like.
