Secret movies are a staple of the Kingdom Hearts series, and Kingdom Hearts 3 is no exception. While the secret movie won’t be in the game at launch, fans will be able to unlock the movie ahead of time so they can view it when the update arrives on January 31. Series director Tetsuya Nomura has even given fans a breakdown on how to unlock the secret movie so they can get it unlocked on their first playthrough.

Typically unlocking secret movies in Kingdom Hearts involves finding a bunch of collectibles or hidden items, and Kingdom Hearts 3 follows a similar trend. Spread throughout the worlds that Sora, Donald, and Goofy explore are “lucky marks” in the shape of the iconic Mickey Mouse head. Players will need to use the new camera feature to take pictures of these marks to unlock the secret movie. Much like previous installments, the difficulty players choose at the start of the game will impact how easy it will be to unlock. Players who play on the Beginner difficulty will need to find all the marks, while those on Standard or Proud mode will need to find less to unlock the movie.

The secret movie is intentionally left off the game disc to prevent it getting out due to leaks. While only a handful of copies of the game got out, that could be just enough for people to ruin the twists and turns that the development team worked so hard on. With so many storylines converging into one game, it’s no wonder that Square Enix decided to keep the epilogue and secret movie hidden until the post-launch updates. For those who may have missed a game or two in the series, there will be a Memory Archive feature which will allow players to recap the story of Kingdom Hearts so far.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is already bringing in rave reviews from critics, which is surely making the wait feel that much longer for die-hard Kingdom Hearts fans. Thankfully after many delays, the wait is nearly over, and fans will soon be able to play the highly anticipated next chapter in Sora’s journey. Hopefully the wait will be worth it for those fans who have followed Sora’s journey since day one back in 2002.

Kingdom Hearts 3 launches January 29 for PS4 and Xbox One.
