About a month ago, Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura admitted he believes that the sequel was announced too early, even though Square Enix did so in order to prevent leaks and rumors from happening. Nevertheless, Nomura also said that development for the the forthcoming action-RPG is now moving along well, and as a means of paying homage to the character that has helped facilitate the KH series, the sequel has now released a new promotional trailer celebrating 90 years of Disney's mascot Mickey Mouse.

As seen in the trailer below, Kingdom Hearts 3 fans are taken on a trip throughout the life of Mickey Mouse, and his evolution that has occurred within Square Enix's popular action-RPG franchise. Considering the fact that the character debuted as a hand drawn black and white rodent in Walt Disney's 1928 American animated short film Steamboat Willie and has now transitioned into an international icon is definitely remarkable to say the least.

As of now, Square Enix hasn't released too much in the way of promotional wares that detail how Mickey Mouse will fit into the overall narrative of Kingdom Hearts 3, but it is known that Mickey and Riku traveled into the World of Darkness to try and rescue Aqua from Master Xehanort's control, but were too late. For those who want to see the scene in action, they would do well to dig into the Frozen world trailer released last month during E3 2018.

Mickey's role in Kingdom Hearts 3 aside, it's safe to say that plenty of fans are still waiting for Square Enix to offer up even more details about the sequel as a whole, especially since Tetsuya Nomura recently suggested that footage of the Big Hero 6 world could be coming soon. Of course, with KH3 currently slated for release early next year, the publisher and developer still has plenty of time to fill fans in on all that's to come.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is set for release on January 29, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
