With fans oozing with anticipation for Kingdom Hearts 3 after the new trailer from Tokyo’s D23 Expo today, there’s definitely a lot to look forward to. Some are excited just to jump back into the world, while others are eager to see some of their favorite things return, like the Gummi Ship.

Kingdom Hearts fans will recognize the Gummi Ship as the minimalistic vessel that helped Sora travel between worlds. Players would control the Gummi Ship as they avoided obstacles and destroyed incoming baddies along the way.

In Kingdom Hearts 2, the Gummi Ship was a little more detailed, giving players more to work with when traveling from one world to another. The Gummi Ship was more three-dimensional and let players travel from one world to another without having to backtrack, unlike the first game.

While speaking at D23 Japan, Kingdom Hearts 3 game director Tetsuya Nomura had shown off a video featuring some new mechanics in game, including the Gummi Ship. Unfortunately, the video was not released to the public and was prepared specifically for the expo's attendees. That hasn't stopped attendees from sharing what they saw on social media, though, but keep in mind everything is second hand.

According to reports, the Gummi Ship in Kingdom Hearts 3 is completely three-dimensional and can travel 360 degrees. Players will also be able to customize their Gummi Ship, although it's unclear how deep that will go. Perhaps most intriguing is the reveal that the Gummi Ship can freely roam in its environment in what is described as an open world-like setup.

Nothing is confirmed and there are no photos from the D23 exclusive video, but fans can speculate and hope that Kingdom Hearts 3 is going to exceed their expectations, especially after thirteen years of waiting. The game itself is on its way to completion and fans are anxiously waiting for that confirmed release date sometime this year.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to release in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
