Today was a very big day for Kingdom Hearts 3 fans, as a new gameplay trailer debuted and a new song was announced from the title. However, all these announcements could have fans wondering: how complete is the game?

Kingdom Hearts 3 fans have been waiting about thirteen years for the next installment of the franchise and some fans are skeptical about what is actually going to happen before the game gets released. To assuage some fans that were present at the D23 Expo in Tokyo, Japan, game director Tetsuya Nomura released a video message that went deeper into the game's development and offered more information about the gameplay.

One exciting but somewhat nebulous piece of info that Nomura told fans is that the game is almost complete. In the video, he states that the game is almost done, saying that the “first part of the game is 90% complete, the second part of the game is 60-70% complete, and the last part is a secret.” Square Enix has one of their biggest teams working on this game and, hopefully, fans can expect it sooner rather than later.

The video was not published online, unfortunately, but some fans have taken to social media to share its contents. One topic Nomura spoke about was how he was “hesitant in showing the Tangled world…due to the difficulty in displaying the physics of Rapunzel’s hair.” According to the game director, Rapunzel’s hair interacts with the environment around her and blows in the wind when she’s standing still. There seems to be a lot going on in the city of Corona, as some NPCs were revealed and some areas apt for swimming were shown.

Looking at the combat, fans can see a few of the many different Keyblades Sora can wield. There also seems to be more cooperative attacks as ever, including a presumed summon where Ariel from The Little Mermaid pops in to give Sora and his pals a hand.

Fans are holding out hope that E3, one of the world’s biggest gaming conventions, will hold all the answers when it comes to Kingdom Hearts 3’s possible release date, but keep crossing those fingers because everything seems to be up in the air, even with the game being close to finished.

Kingdom Hearts 3 releases in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
