Despite being a commercial success that has exceeded 1 million in sales, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is nevertheless plagued with bugs. On this, Warhorse Studios had admitted that the game wasn’t at the level it would have liked for its launch. Executive producer Martin Klima stated, “I freely admit though that I wish we had more time to polish the game before the release, that’s what AAA game deserves.”

With that in mind, it’s noteworthy that Klima doesn’t believe that Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a genuine triple-A game, but neither does he believe that it is a traditional indie title. He calls it “an attempt at bridging the two,” which is a comparison many gamers may understand when considering the game’s hardcore gameplay and visual elegance. However, neither does Klima like to compare Kingdom Come: Deliverance to aspects of the triple-A industry that panders to a “casual and absent-minded” player.

He went on to admit that the development of Kingdom Come: Deliverance has been a tough project for Warhorse Studios over the years. Nevertheless, the majority of the team was committed to the final game. Klima also revealed that “We – I – certainly did my share of poor decisions and blunders. We have wasted time and energy on things we eventually had to abandon.”

While he didn’t specify what ideas were eventually set aside, Klima continued, “however, I believe that we did some things right, too. We had a remarkably low team turnover – only about thirty developers have left over the six years of development, so I presume that people, if they not actually like working for Warhorse, at least put up with it.” This seems to be good news for the game, as experienced developers may continue to fix and polish the game, with its controversial save system being an area of concern.

Nevertheless, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has had a powerful and successful launch. By fixing some aspects of the game such as its lockpicking system, perhaps the game can better resemble the AAA expectation of Klima and Warhorse Studios. This remains to be seen, but if the devotion of the development team over the past six years is any indication, then great things may be expected of the game and studio.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
