The King of Staten Island will be foregoing a cinematic run in favor of digital distribution. The Universal comedy is directed by Judd Apatow and stars Pete Davidson. The news was revealed in an official statement from the production company as well as an Instagram video from Apatow and Davidson. It is the second movie Universal Pictures has decided to release straight to online distribution, skipping a traditional theatrical run as with Trolls World Tour.

The movie is a semi-autobiographical movie on Davidson’s early years. Universal has described the film as a “bracing comedy” about love, loss, and laughter. The King of Staten Island focuses on the mid-20-year-old Scott as he chases his dreams of becoming a tattoo artist.

With others in his life seemingly growing and finding success, Scott is instead still living with his ER nurse mother and spends his days smoking weed and hanging out with his friends. When his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter, however, it begins a chain reaction that forces Scott to confront his past and embrace an unknown future.

Davidson is an American comedian and actor who has made a name for himself as a regular on Saturday Night Live. Apatow, meanwhile, has plenty of comedy credits to his name, including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, to name just a few.

The King of Staten Island will be available to watch online from June 12.
